Need some xtra money!Want to start sellin beats. N.E. Help ?

The easiest way to make bread with the beats is a GOOD beat CD and some hustle. Not online bullsh*t myspace sh*t either. And f*ck all that slap it together in 5minutes nonsense. If your going to sell your product and you intend on getting people to fork over their money take some pride in your tracks. I put out beat CDs and try to put as much dope sh*t on it em possible. My catch is that I offer them a break if they record the track in one of our studios. So if the CD has 10 beats they LOVE out of 25 and they wanna do joints on I tell em "look I'll knock a few bucks off per hour and give you a copy of the beat without me shouting my name all over". 10 beats, average 2 hrs per session, $35 per hour....do the math,

But like anything else you gotta put some work in.

If you are serious about this I can help you...... Find rappers in your area that want to put together an album. Now if your beats are pretty good(not necessarily great)then the demand for your beats will be constant. Now, if you want to be a respectable producer, you have to find or develop the best artists. Shop your beats to any and all local artists....... Charge them a non-refundable session fee of, let's say, $300/track(charge whatever you can get away with, you can charge more with large groups..... If they don't wanna pay $500 for a track, then tell them to get 5 people drop 100.00/head to get on the track) Also, neogiate residuals(Anywhere from 5 cents to 1.00/track......... I've seen it done)

Ok..... Now you have guaranteed income(or quick money) but here's where it gets tricky... Now a few things can happen from this point on........

1)The artist either never releases the album or the artist you gave the beat to is garbage, so you'll never make residual income from the tracks you sold.

2)The artist decides he doesn't want record the track(s)anymore or group has creative differences so the song never gets done.

3)The artist/group does the song, release the album and they use your beat as one of the singles and it blows up in your region.......... Then you get more money.......

It doesn't matter because you got paid...........

Get you contract together... Search this board for contracts.. I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for... Once they sign, you get paid.........

I agree with Pound on this one...unless your a super dope producer and can crank out dope music quickly, you won't get enough attention from real emcees with 5 minute beats. By "real" emcees, I mean cats that are making their living with this and are ones that people know. Granted, you have to start somewhere, but selling to wack myspace emcees is NOT a way to make anything but headaches in my opinion.

I think KRS once said: ...Make money elsewhere, Hip-Hop you won't abuse it..

I think there's a great difference between letting the money "rule you" and getting compensated for your hard work/effort. I never thought I'd sell any beats, and I haven't yet. But, I have started to reach out to some emcee's that I would like to work with and flow them some material just for the hell of it. I am lucky enough to find some that are receptive to my stuff and want to work with me...does this mean I won't charge in the future? Hell no! I've got a full time job, and a part time- and I'd love to sell some beats so I can quit the part time. Doesn't mean I'm in it for the wrong reasons... just my .02

ok heres the thing, some of yall been talkin to me like im some dude who wants to get rich quick wit hip hop and that aint the case. my thing is i recently lost my job in PA and moved to VA beach. im receiving unemployment, and i just finished up my severence package. As far as selling beats , i wasnt even lookin to get rich on a track, just something to make sure i had some gas in my truck. bread and milk, and dog food , this way , i had a little bit of money left by the time my next check came in, seeing as the job market sucks ass right and my situation is VERY TIGHT right now, but automatically people are assumin im tryin to abuse some shit when that aint the case at all. Ive supported hip hop all my life , never recieved money from any of my beats or any of my verses and some of yall wanna crucify me just for askin bout making say an extra 50 bux a month or something. Now i know not to post certian questions here. ...

+I didn't want to piss u off, thats just the first thing that came into my mind when i read this thread. So take it easy, chill, relax.

Why don't you start doing some shows, and sell your cd's wherever you perform?
Learn how to silk screen some T-Shirts and sell them also.
Sell some cd's and T-Shirts in record stores..
Hustle some cd's in the street...
You should be able to make $100/day. 700/week? Schyt...I need to listen to my own advice!

$100 a day does sound nice, but that's harder than it sounds...just thinking if cds are $10 and shirts are only $15, do the daily math! If it's just hand to hand selling out of your trunk, that's some consistent selling right there.
