Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

When I try to load from or save to a newly purchased SCSI Zip (250) drive from my MPC2000, the system freezes up as if it doesn't recognize the drive and my only option is to shut down and reboot the system. The same thing happens when I try to format the drive. I've tried with multiple Zip disks.

Any suggestions what could be wrong?

That's why it doesn't work. Older devices like the MPC don't know when to terminate the SCSI chain unless you tell them to, that is why you need a drive with termination switches for it to work, the drives with switches are getting harder to find but check local thrift and computer shops, garage sales, pawn shops and ebay.

I didn't know that either when I first came here, I actually took my MPC back to the music store and told them the SCSI fuse was fried. Their technician looked at it(not really) and said it was unfixable. I told them but I still wanted to keep it and use it at home(I said it was no good for live performances) and I convinced the manager to knock $214CAD off the original price of $850CAD.
