I got this used, in like new condition. I'm new at mpc's.
This is Version 1.00B (!!!)
I have tried to update to 1.24 twice: both times got "wrong card" error.
The card is a new SanDisk Ultra II type I 2GB. It works with the mpc, since I loaded from and saved to it in the few minutes I tried the unit.
I formatted the card, and loaded the MPC2500.bin file from akai usa. (The first time I tried to update, I loaded it from akai japan instead, since the usa site was having problems, but the current one on there is from the usa site. Neither has worked, which indicates that the file itself wouldn't be corrupted.).
When looking at the card on the computer it shows just 2 folders:
FLASHY (which apparently is from the formatting) and
MPC2500.bin (which is what it's supposed to be according to Akai)
I opened the card on the mpc, and saw in the ROOT directory:
FLASHY and
osMPC2500 (which is different name from that above)
AND YET I STILL GET THE "WRONG CARD" MSG IN THE OS UPDATE SCREEN
NOTE: the only thing I did differently from official procedure, was that I used a card reader to copy the MPC2500.bin file to the CF card.
I did this because I don't have a computer and have to pay to use an internet cafe for things like this (university computers don't allow it).
However, a file is a file, so I don't see what difference it would make...........except that the card has to be reinserted to the mpc before the updating power-up.
The official procedure is to leave the card in the mpc and use the USB function to connect direct to computer.
I don't see how that would be an issue, but I mention it for completeness for those here with technical expertise.
Would it matter, since the version is so old.......would I maybe need to install an early upgrade first, and then upgrade from that to v1.24????????
I very much appreciate any tips/info/experience that may be offered.
