External sound

Does anyone know if you can mix the external signal from a cd player or stereo through the MPC500? I would like to play a beat in sync with a record but it seems only in Record mode I can play a cd and hit the pads at the same time but can't adjust the tempo. A mixer seems to be the solution but I want to know if such a feature exist because the manual doesn't say it.

I would get a mixer, and have it receive your CD player/turntable in one channel (2 channels for stereo) and another 2 channels for your MPC.

The 500 only plays it's input when in record or when off.

Yeah I figured I would have to hook up my mixer to it. The old SP303 got that feature where you could play a beat that you made and mix it with an incoming signal and even add effects to it. Hope you read this Akai.
