MPC 1000 acting crazy

I turn it on, it loads everything and all the buttons light up like normal. As soon as I hit program it sometimes goes dimmer, changes a whole bunch of parameters and stays that way for a while. It will then go between acting normal and dimming out acting crazy.

Has any one else experienced this?

Makes me want to get a 2500 or go back to a 2000xl.

SOUNDS LIKE THE PADS SENSORS ARE MISTRIGGERING CAUSING IT TO TRIGGER VARIOUS OPTIONS...

Did you ever try to open it with a magnetic screwdriver ?

If it's the case I hope it's still under warranty, otherwise you're... screwed

What OS are you using?

i experienced similar weirdness a while ago:

turned on the machine and it seemed as it was hitting the pads very fast and randomly, sometimes constantly and sometimes avary now and then. opened the shit and disconnected the pad's cable from the system, still acting the same. then wanked all the cables inside a bit and then the problem occured only once, otherwise worked ok ever since. but i don't trust that piece no more.

it was hitting pads in main window and in mute screen muting tracks, nxt seq changing into next seq and so on... so wasn't able to do much. and ofcourse happened during gig! opened it up backstage and got it working 45 min later! had to start immediately without putting the pieces back together:




JJOS2 (and JJOS1). didn't have chance to try akai os to see if it would have done the same, but seemed like hardware based problem.

lol, a magnetic screwdriver will not kill your mpc. You can put it on your TV or speaker and it sill continue to work just fine. (allthough I will not advice you to do that).

it is not OS dependent (tried with OS1, OS2, OS2XL, not with akai OS but i'm pretty sure that it would be the same)

this happens every once in a while, most of the time it's working ok.

once it was acting like this i opened it up and removed the pad sensor cable, turned it on and it was still the same.

Yea man I had the exact same problem with mine about a year ago, I would turn it on and load up a beat I had made and then all of sudden it would go skitzofrantic on me, all the sounds I had assigned to my pads were playing in a fast paced way. I had to send it back to AKAI and they told me that something had shorted out in the inside of the machine(not sure what it was exactly but it looks like what you've got there).The bad news is that your gonna have to send it back AKAI and when I sent mine back it took about a week and a half to get there and when they sent it back to me it was another three weeks for them to send it to find out it was still broken.So I had to send it back again and wait and what they did was basically put a whole new inside in the mpc and put the old outside cover of it on the new inside, if that makes sense. so long story short your I'm about 90% sure that you have the same problem I had and you should most likely send it back to akai.I hate to tell you that, I know it sucks.I wish the mpc 1000 were built better.PEACE

i'm running Akai OS 2.12, and just started having the same problem. all my pads are triggering themselves. i found this post here on the forum;

i've pm'd SpaceRider asking what he means by 'overhauling' the connectors. i'm hoping i can do the same to my mpc, i don't really wanna send it away to be fixed...
