Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hello all,

I've got an MPC2000xl, a MOTU MTP-AV, and I'm running Logic 5 on a Windows XP machine. Normally I'd just send Midi Clock out of Logic and the MPC would lock up but now I'm trying now to do the same thing using Midi Time Code.
Initially, I wanted to have the MPC serve as Master and Logic be the slave but I figured I'd better try it the other way first (since I'd be swapping the Master, Slave roles back and forth during the stages of production). After many failed attemps I'm having nothing but problems trying to sync up the two using MTC.

In trying to use Logic as the Master, I sent MTC 30fps & MMC out while setting the MPC to receive MTC 30fps and MMC on and setting both to the same tempo. When I start logic running, the MPC plays but the sequence in logic doesn't. I also wanted tried to slave Logic to the MPC but when I hit play on the MPC, Logic does nothing.

I tried the exact same MTC sync setup in Acid 4 and it worked fine both ways with Logic or the MPC as Master.

I'm sure that the MPC is transmitting midi information properly and no events are being muted in the MTP/AV.

Does anyone here own a similar setup? If so, 1)did you get it to work? and most imortantly 2)how?

Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks.

sounds like a logic issue i am sure there are some fantabulous logic user boards where someone could give you the exact setting that is messing you up in like 2 minutes. you had it set up right for using logic as the master. make sure you only enable MTC and MMC on the midi outs in logic. in other words do not tell it to wait for mmc to come in on the midi ins. in nuendo you can set each of those options for each midi in and out, to get my sync on i only set mtc send and mmc send on the midi outs. then on the mpc set it like you had it receive mtc30 and mmc and you should be set. if not there is some weird logic setting and i would suggest searching google for a logic audio user's board and asking them.

I'll try that. Thanks for the info, after tackling the Logic problem, Nuendo was gonna be my next MPC/sync project (I'm startin' to love that lil' proggy).

nuendo is the ishnit. and sync is super easy, just hit device -> sync setup and tell it to send mtc on the midi out and send mmc and you are done.

But why do you want to use MTC ? ? Is there something more than just midi sync ??

i use mtc because midi clock wasnt working right for me. it would sync up but it would loose sync and the mpc was being all crazy when i would try to play beats on the mpc that were sequenced along with the nuendo with sync. it was like it was constantly trying to re-sync and the timing wasnt on right. i switched to mtc and everything works perfect. it could be just me though.

I wouldn't mind using midi clock but I thought that MTC was supposed to be more precise. Whatever's gonna work, I'll use. I've got synth lines and s950 stuff playing from Logic, so I just wanted to be able to build sequences in the MPC while, at the same time, using the MPC to control Logic's playback.

Hit MPC2000XL Overdub (or Record) & Play --> Logic plays along in sync.

I used to do it a long time ago with an HR-16B triggering hits from the s950 & s1000 while sending clock to my software sequencer (Voyetra Sequencer Plus Gold).

Thanks!!!. That (along with a reinstall) did it, I finally got everything to lock up with either device as Master.
