I need to know the differences between the two models.
Also I can get a 2000 with 8 analog outputs, 32 megs of ram and a scsi drive for 1500$ canadian ($1015 US), is that a good deal?

That's not that great. You can get an MPC2000XL brand new for like $999.00. Although 8 outs is nice, RAM upgrade is really cheap, and so is a ZipDrive. That would be an ok deal if it were an MPC2000XL.

XL:

- Accepts WAVs
- Track Mute Button
- Next Sequence Button (Better than it sounds)
- Tilt LCD Screen

I can't think of anymore off top but I know there's a few more.

Try a search of this forum - this question has been asked a few times before. Basically, get the XL.

just to clear something up for you, the NON XL (like i have) accepts wavs too. you CAN save a wav file onto a floppy or zip disk and load it up and assign it to a pad. you can not load up an mpc program file (sounds assignment) that has references to wav files onto the non XL but that has never been a problem for me anyways.

The NON-XL cannot time stretch samples, and trust me, you will need that.

yeah unless you have a computer, cause then you can timestretch faster and better.

Personally I use Sound Forge 5.0 to time stretch my samples.

All the differences listed here...actually this is the first thing that comes up on google if you search "akai mpc-2000XL"

http://www.mpc2000xl.com/summary.htm

ps I paid £300 for my 2000XL with 32mb ram and 8 outs, all I fitted was an internal ZIP drive for the costly sum of £5. It's in nice condition too
