As far as I know, MPCs have always worked this way and for a good reason: 19 out of 20 times someone is sequencing a loop on an MPC, it is a short drum loop. So as soon as you finish drumming out that hot beat that goes all the way to the last measure... WHOOPS, you just lost the beginning of your sequence as it loops past the beginning.
On the other hand, it would have been a nice option to select. The undo and making a long sequence of copies should work for most purposes. If you are annoyed waiting on the metronome to start, you can turn that off to start recording immediately (I usually do this as soon as there is any rhythm to follow).
Here is another way you can do it: set a bunch of blank tracks in a row to mute, start recording, then hit "Track +" to move to the next sequence at the begin/end of each loop. Note that you never have to hit stop to do this. Since each track was blank, overdub is the same as rec and when you stop you are left with a bunch of "takes" to choose from. If they all suck, undo will undo all since they were made in one pass.
