JJ OS

Akai definitely knows exactly who JJ is, it's just they have no legal position based on poor choices made by Akai and Akai Japan during the transition.

you know... it may be the fact that I'm still a "noob" with my 2500 (have only had it for a couple weeks), but I still haven't found a task that I haven't been able to easily achieve with the original OS. Can't deny that I'm a little apprehensive to pay for a new OS that I just don't think I need right now... and there's always the chance that it might come with some bugs, while the original OS is working perfectly. So... What's SO GREAT about the JJ OS that seems to make MPC's without it otherwise "useless"? Also... maybe it's me, just misinterpreting the somewhat broken english, but what's with having to pay for JJ OS 1 to be able to get 2? Why not just be able to pay for OS 2?

David Banner uses it on his 2500 as well.

I don't know if I want the new software on my 3000! So, I feel you. I haven't had any problems with the 3.11! I like to keep it all original.

changing a program value in the entire program/track at one time?
chopping?
using a qlink slider on an entire program/track instead of just one measly pad?
using a real envelope instead of just a lame, unfinished "attack/decay" ?
aftertouch?

Yep, & like someone stated already, you can't miss something you never had. Once you establish some sort of workflow, these additions that were added in JJ OS become more of an asset as opposed to the original OS.

yeah, that's completely right for the most of those features
but changing multiple pads' values at one times is something i missed even when i didn't have it to begin with...

when i'd chop a sample into a bunch of pieces and want to pitch them all down, having to go to each individual pad ONE at a fking TIME to pitch them all down 3 semitones (let alone cents, tht was a whole other nightmare) i'd sit there wondering why i felt like i'd been robbed.

I feel y'all. I've been looking at the upgrade for the 3000. I'm not completely sleeping on it. It would be very necessary for 60II.

well, like i said, i'm still an mpc noob and haven't gotten to the point where i need these just yet, but they soudn nice (espeially the q-link thing)

just sucks that I'd have to pay for a double upgrade (version 1 and version 2), instead of just being able to pay to install verswion 2. Are these improvements available in the free JJ OS? I know I could look into this, but what the hell... convince me!

U can easily reinstall the akai os. But I don't think u want to once u've tried it.
Eventhough ur feeling it's better to focus on the akai os first, i would still recomend u to use the free version.
It doesn't come with a lot of new functions (compared to the later versions), but a lot of things can be done faster/easier with it. Try it and see it for urself. U won't regret it.

I'd do 1 and then 2XL myself....

which one's the 2XL? The latest OS 2 I see for the 2500 on the JJ site is version 1.21.

Think I may try the free 3.08 first, to get the feel of it, and if I dig it then I'll consider the bump to 1 and 2... still kind of annoyed by the fact that you need to go through the little "pyramid" of having to get a password for OS1 in order to be able to run OS2, instead of just being able to pay for the latest version.

I don't think there's a link on the main site. It comes out around Christmas. I'm planning on buying a MPC 1000 depending on how the
chord function is implemented....
