Introducing myself and a few questions

Hey all. I've been reading this forum for a while, so I finally decided to sign up.

My current experience with electronic music has always been on the computer (Logic, Ableton, Reason, etc). That's worked fine over the past few years, but I think it's time to try something new. Currently, I use an Akai MPD24 for basic beatmaking, but I've been toying around with the idea of getting an MPC for about a year now. I don't really like to pigeonhole myself into one genre, but some of my influences are Justice, The Bloody Beatroots, The Toxic Avenger, Digitalism, MSTRKRFT, and many others.

I've gotten lost of great advice from this site. The debates, comparisons, and suggestions have all helped tremendously. Though, after all the reading I've done, I'm still not decided on which model to buy. I know that the MPC 500 and 1000 would be a little too basic, but I'm not sure where to go from there. For me, the 2500 seems like the ideal machine, but I see so many people praise the 2000XL. What are the strengths/weaknesses between the 2000XL, 2500, and something bigger like the 4000? I've heard that the 4000 and 500 have their share of bugs. Have they been fixed yet?

Welcome to the forums. If there's anything you needed to pick up on, it would be that a lot of the functions that are in the bigger mpc's, can be found in the JJ OS.

So as of this moment, there's currently two models that are supported...1k & 2500. The 1k would seem to be the lesser of the two in terms of price, but with the JJ OS installed on it, you'd think you were working on a 4k or something.

The 1k is probably your best bet to start out with.

Yeah. In the right hands, the 1k with jjos is by no means lesser than a 2500 or 2kxl.. Its all about the user. U won't be dissapointed with your purchase bro...... just make sure an mpc is what you want/need seeing that you already have logic and ableton or whatever else you got

even though im an upgraded user (went from 1k to 25k) they are pretty much the same machine (minus the flip screen, more q links, more midi options, bigger pads)

what you said about the 1k being basic is false with jjos installed its quite a capable machine. so i would say def start with the 1k w/ jjos and go from there.

You guys mentioning the JJOS made me remember a few more questions.

Since this is gonna be my first experience with an MPC, should I rush out and get the JJOS right away? I feel that I'm gonna have enough on plate just learning the basics. I've checked out the JJOS website, and I see that there's three versions. Should I just dump the cash to get JJOS 2, or start with the free one?

To those who've used the MPC1000 and 2500 - are the smaller pads really noticeable? Are they a hindrance in any way? The MPD24 has the full-size pads, so that's kinda what I'm used to.
