New MPC 2000xl vs old MPC 2000xl

I read somewhere that someone was complaining that the new blue mpc 2000xl felt like it was made from cheaper materials than the old one.

Specifically i was wondering if anyone knows how/if the pads on the two machines are different.

I got my blue XL when i thought i had fried my original XL, which turned out i hadn't but that's another story...

Had been reading about the blue ones crashing and freezing more, but like Lampdog i was sure that couldn't be true.

I had been using the old one daily for years from 2000 on till last year, and if it froze up on me 5 times in all that time

it's a lot ! It just didn't freeze.

The blue one is freezing up so much, i think i now have found out what causes it to freeze and can sort of avoid it.

But as much as i didn't ( want to ) believe it myself too, my experience is the blue ones crash more... i'm sorry

wish it wasn't true..

The pads and casing are definitely the same btw.

What do you think is causing the freeze?

your right, i could have mentioned that before

well, i'm pretty sure it only happens during heated programming sessions, when i just made an edit

of some sort and the 'undo' led is lit. That's when the chance of a freeze is big !

Make a few button combinations to quick with the 'undo' led already lit , and it freezes...

...Really i have been working fast on my old XL too, but it just didn't happen.

So what i do after an edit is switch to another sequence and back, to erase the 'undo' infromation

from the XL's little brain, and so far that seems to do the trick.

Sucks if you want to undo an edit but i can live with it.



It never happened during a live set ( knock on wood ) when just playing back sequences .

Only during programming.

I got the blue mcd 2kxl and here are three annoying problems that were there when I first bought the machine.

- Note variation slider does not work, at all.

- Once in a while, the 16 levels TUNING function REFUSES to let me change the original key and it's always stuck at 4. I gotta restart the machine in the middle of a sequence for it to go away.

-The damn step-edit screen does not work at all. My understanding is, after you record a sequence, you can go into the step edit screen and it shows you all the events for that track. When I do that, the stem edit screen is ALL EMPTY. And when I press playback while in the step edit screen, it switches back to the main window.

and a minor problem is that, the 2kxl takes some "boom" away from my samples. I'll record a fat kick into the machine, and it loses some of it's fatness. but I'm sure with more experience, I can fix this.

Yeah but when your in the Step Edit screen you have to be on the track that you are trying to Step Edit otherwise you won't see your sample or sound that you want to alter.

i have the classic and my note variation slider dont work (bought it from ebay tho so it was probly like that from the owner). the 16 level bug is also on the classic. and i used to think the same thing about the step edit screen lol but its telling you whats going on in the seqence only for whatever time that your on. for exapmle, if your in step edit and its 2:3:24 but you dont have any note on that time, nothing will be there. go to step edit and hold the 'Go To' button then click one of the 'Step < >' buttons. itll take you to the next or previous note that you have programed on that track.

Those drums sound very fresh.

Sounds like a regular sampled break to me. But the break is alittle bit flat unless that's how he wanted it.

It sounds like he played his own pattern with the drums, though.

Sounds all, crunchy and old school vintage.

It seems Akai's quality control was not up to snuff during the time the blue 2kxl's came out.. They were on the virge of collapse until Numark took over.. Blue 4000's, Blue 2000xl's and MPC 1000 pads all have been troublesome..

The blue xl's the plastic buttons seem different from the older versions and more fragile.

the only thing diff is that the new MPC's have been a little less wear on them!!!
