Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500
By PlanetEarth12 Tue Dec 16, 2008 8:01 am
Im gettin my first mpc, which is gonna be the 500..and I was wondering, if I were to chop up my samples on the mpc, do I have to match tempo's, between the sample and the mpc

And if so, is it possible that I just match tempo's, then when I speed it up, my samples speed up as well, or do they remain at there speed and have to be sped up independantly to match a sped up tempo on the mpc

Sorry for any ignorance I posses, this will be my first time with an mpc..thanks for any help

I do not think this is possible, you will need to beatmatch them... I have to be honest that I am not sure simply since I do not look for a function like that.

So do I just start the project at the same speed as the sample, then when I speed it up, the samples speed up with it then?

I dont mind the sample pitch changing either, as long as they speed up with the tempo

There's a lot of ways to make it work.

-Pitch shifting can speed up or slow down a sample
-Timestretch does the same, without changing the pitch, but it sounds digital
-There's a tempo and time signature that your sequences run at
-You can use tap tempo to find the tempo
-Chopping a sample and playing the pieces back manually slower or faster

Use any combination of these to make your tempo right

Yes, No and Yes

but there's some handy calculators that you'll like here:

yeah you have to start the project at the same speed as the sample and when you speed it up, the samples do not speed up at the same time.

Thanks to everyone for your responses..on the 1000 though, is it easier to do all the timestretching and such?

And also, if Im gonna chop it up on the mpc, then couldnt I just record it at the speed I want, into it, by speeding up my record player, then I wouldnt have to speed em up afterwards?
