MPC obsession!

I gotta know something....
I've never worked with a MPC 2000XL, but there's something about it that makes me want to get one... (I have a MPC 2500 already and I love it. I think it's that "retro-look" (and feel?))
But will I get to use the MPC 2000XL if I get one or will my MPC 2500 (JJOS2) make it collect dust?

Is the feel any different from the 2500 and the 2000XL?

Anyone went from a 2500 to a 2000XL or the other way around?

Well, I went and copped a 2k classic even though I already have a 4k. The 2k brings me back to the basics of beat creation. I take things from the 2k and apply them on the 4k. What I find amazing is all the stuff I use to do on the 2k before I got my 4k it took me a few minutes to wrap my mind around the work flow of the 2k once I got my hands on one again. IMO there is not too much of a night a day difference between th 2kxl and the 2.5k but do you

I understand exactly what you are going through homie. I have told this story before but, I will tell it again...

I saved for MONTHS to buy a MPC2kxl back in 2001 only to get impatient and ended up spending that $$$ on an E-Mu MP-7. Still, for years I dreamed of owning the xl. I ended up getting some hail damage and the insurance co. gave me a check for 1600$. I was about to place an order for my XL online when I ran into this site and learned of the 2500. So, I saved a couple hundred extra and got the 2500. Well, even though I loved (still do) my 2500, I felt that I still needed an XL. I don't know why but I JUST NEEDED one. So, a few months back, I had the chance to get my hands on an XL and I LOVE IT!!! I don't really use it but, there is something about that machine man. It's just so pretty! If you feel the need for one, even if it's just gonna sit in a corner of a room looking good, do IT!!!

i think the xl is the perfect mpc for just flipping beats. the screen layout is perfect and far superior to any of the other mpc's. if you got your chops ready and you use some midi gear. you can knock out an insane number of beats in record time. its just perfect. it is kinda limited by todays standards. but thats what makes it easy to knock out beats. simplicity at its finest.i will buy another one someday.

yea the 2kxl is dope the only thing i wish it could do is resample its own outs, sample while seqeucne is playing, and the mute groups, i wish you could have every pad cut off the other. other than those small things this is the perfect machine.

The only things missing from the XL are the global mute groups and global PARAMS settings. Other than that, nothing can beat it in workflow and creativity terms. For hiphop, it is perfect, period.

I love the look and style of the 2500 and definitely will get one some day when i find one cheap.

And indeed will very much enjoy the 'sample while playing' function, and maybe the 'normalize' function too .

Some time back i was in the market for a new MPC, and was really hot for the 2500,

but all the O.S. bug horrorstories and having to get used to a new workflow ( i'm almost symbiotic with my XL )

pushed me towards a replacement XL.

But i still think the 2500 is the best looking MPC to date. It has a Darth Vader thing going.

i like the xl look over the 2500. the 2500 seems too square and edgy.

Love the 2kxl so much..that after 7 years away from it,got it back.next to the others.Mostly for pre-production and travelling but still..that's where my heart's at.

Something about the 2000xl..... I guess it's the workflow.

i have the 2000XL, but i would want to have the 4000 too, hopefully someday i will have it

well i got obsessed with mpc as well.
i was saving money for quite a long time but actually could not save enough because there was some other shit to pay for.
and what happened? i found a broken one for almost no money and it actually worked so i got a 2000 i was happy as hell, im still happy with it. i love the machine so much...
