Help for pads to trigger midi.

Heya, this might be a repeat of a post because I'm sure I'm not the first one to ask this. But i looked through the site and didn't find anything specific to solve this problem.

My issue is that i am trying to find the proper settings under JJos1 to make my pads send out midi messages. I'll tell you what i've done so far.
- connected my MPC out/in A to a midi interface that goes to the computer.
- Mpc main page : under "pc" i set it to off and under "midi" i set it to 1A
- Im not sure if that has anything to do with it, but set the mpc to be slave of the computer through MTC.
- and i have launched Ableton live to record the triggering of the pads.

End result is the computer gets nothing. as if im not even pressing the pads.

I generally edit all my drum patterns on the MPC but i would like to use my MPC occasionally for triggering other drum samples from the computer such as Battery or BFD.

did you try searching for midi templates for the mpc? there are quite a few templates out there for various programs such as reason and ableton even reaper that coincide with the use of an mpc to trigger vst programs or other sampler engines within the program you are using.. i dont currently use ableton so this might not be correct but check the midi control mapping there should be one available in a prefrences and optiions menu, within the menu there should be a command or midi learn configurator that allows you to find out if your box is even hooked up right. if you press a pad or move a slider on the mpc and your comp. recognizes the cc message then you are on the right track. i use reaper so i dont know how much im helping you out but almost all recording programs have a similarities. your mpc midi/sync settings should be set to the following: active track receive channel:all/ sync in:1 slave/ mode:midi time code/ receive mmc: on/ sync out: ab master/ mode off, mmc:off/ send mmc: off.

Yeah the thing is ableton receives midi messages from whatever CC it might be coming from. its not about assigning the control message # to the pad on the MPC because if the pad were transmitting anything, Ableton would receive it. I mean I was pretty sure that it was some type of setting on the MPC that prevented it from sending out midi data from the pads. Now I'm thinking it could be as simple as a bad cable if the case is that the pads should transmit midi data if I'm assigning it a midi channel already.

As far as the syncing goes that seems to be working fine. the computer controls the mpc.

I just cant get the pads to send data out.

damn it sounds like you might have a faulty cable... just out of curiosity what kind of interface are you using with your mpc/pc setup? i ran into similar prooblems when i first started using the mpc to sequence my vst's so i understand the frustration if the cable issue doesnt resolve your problem, try searching for keyboard templates in the ableton forums that people sometimes make... this my take you in the right direction.

Yup it was a faulty cable. I hate bad cables, they just make me look like a fool . Anyway anamorphisis thanks for helping out. believe it or not you did help me stop trying to mess with the MPC and maybe check what i should've been checking first.
and I use a midiman interface 4x4 into a mac via USB and the mpc via midi to midiman.

thats good to hear! be prepared to have some fun now, i dont know how you compose tracks but i know since ive been integrating the mpc and all the vst's i use in reaper, i find it alot more practical than just recording a basic sequence into the mpc, then dumping it into a daw for additional work. ill post up a link when i get a chance of my first track demonstrating using this technique.

hey guys

trying to hook mpc sequences to a specific scenes in ableton

so everytime the mpc change sequence ableton can follow

for example: scene 15 would trigger sequence 35 or viceversa

any idea?

Never mind, try this:

Send out a midi note on the beginning of the new sequence. In Live make the midi note switch to the scene (or marker) of your choice. You have to set the clips to legato, i think.
Didn´t try this myself so check at your own risk

and sorry for hijack the thread,,i just been checking all threads and couldnt find any info,,i just think it would be very interesting way of take the best of both mpc's and ableton for those who use it together
