interlockin' awesomeness

all those little boxes are vsts that control midi data, like
http://asseca.com/nicfit/

these and others. i simply strung em together in a way that makes them extremely powerful for my homemade controllers, radium49, and mpc1000.

more on this later. it's very exciting.

well, no audio is processed by this software. it only interprets incoming midi and relays it to my mpc/reaper/reason.

basically, once i set it up, i minimize it and it simply sits as an application in my tray.
it modifies and routes my signals from my hollowbook, snuffbox, and radium49 midikeyboard. once i assemble this frankencode, i never have to modify it. essentially, i'm writing an "os" for my midi controllers, turning them into 1 big integrated midicontroller.

for example, the faders on the radium are routed thru the mpc and from there to Reaper, where they control an ADSR plugin overtop of incoming Reason audio - ie, recordable ADSR envelope over each incoming Reason device.

second, the knobs on the radium. 4 control an LFO's properties, while another knob controls which FX the LFO modulates. all LFO properties are recordable, just like the adsr envelope.

third, two faders/the modwheel on the snuffbox. the two faders operate as a HI and LOW range for the pitch wheel. this way, you can specify to bend the pitch from say +12 semitones down to -7, instead of having an even range in both directions. in turn, this also applies to the infrared controller from Hollowbook - ie by moving my hand in midair, i can bend my pitch as per my limitation faders.

furthermore, by turning a knob on hollowbook, i can convert the PITCHBEND info to CHANNEL PRESSURE or MODWHEEL, thus selectively controlling one of those three values. and these, of course, are recordable too.

the other faders/knob in my snuffbox are for controlling reaper - active track volume, active track pan, and other stuff.

unfortunately, no way - for a hundred reasons:

1- i'm not using any of my own software for this, it's all just a combination of other people's modules including

host: tobybear minihost
vst: energyxt
modular vsts: tobybear, NDC, nicfit, SOMA, IXix, Cockos and dozens of others

all i did was sew them together.

2- they'd have to have the exact same midi controllers that i do: including the 2 ones that i built myself, haha and there are only one of each in the world - both of which sit on my desk at home.

3- this is something anyone could do. minihost is 20$ donationware, all the midi vsts are freeware, and energyxt is pretty reasonably priced.

---------

what this IS good for is prototyping future hardware ideas/softwares. i can write code without writing code, and then show a programmer my blueprints and have him/her interpret them into a standalone application.

this type of thing, as it stands, is very much an individual type application - you can dramatically improve your workflow and your usage of your midi controllers by putting in a bunch of work assembling this software, and then you just sit back and twirl the knobs/slide the faders/hit the keys.

basically, it's finally turning my daw into more of a hardware-controlled atmosphere. i'm really looking forward to automatic lfo control over all my tracks.

rokuez - like i said i didn't really do any programming here, it's just piecemealing of other people's vsts in a way that's unique to my personal incoming midi signals sent from my controllers.

the graphical representation you see here is energyXT though

this stuff is even simpler than Synthedit, which is a vst-building program. i'm just fortunate enough to have gathered a ton of midi vsts like this:

Well done. I know it cost you a whole lot less than Max/MSP! That platform really interest me.

I'm actually interested in creating a controller for RadiaL which I totally love, but will settle for a USB game controller since what I really need is an X/Y controller of some sort.

I dig what you did, bro.

Quite a misleading subject for this thread. I saw the word wrote in quotes and thought you where coding. Did you actually write any code in any programing language syntax? I notice you said "I didn't really do any" so I'm curious if there was a simple scripting or something involved. Or was this just a Graphical user interface you used?

This reminds me of individuals who make a webpage/design in front page or dreamweaver and claim that they did coding. When in reality they just clicked buttons in GUI, configured colors, moved objects around with the mouse...

Using a graphical user interface to make structure is in no such way programing IMO it is just configuring a system

Props on getting your setup how you like it tho.

ummm how about using the right word for the correct purpose to avoid confusing/misleading semantics.

I doubt nym wrote/coded/programed anything what so ever , it sounds like it was just configuring a system in a graphical user interface.

So why even put the word "wrote" in quotation marks if nothing was written.....

seems "misleading" to me. Notice how I put quotes around the word misleading. So now that word doesn't mean precisely what it did before according to your interpretation of how quotation marks are used. I would hate to mislead you with that but like i said best to use the right word for the correct purpose or it causes confusion & typically "misleads" people.

Is it ok for me to use the word misleads now that I've put it in quotations? If not please let me know "why" ??

Peep. ---> check it out: "software" i "wrote" for my midicontroller rig

No software was coded. No code was written. Improper word usage IMO which mislead me at least

I see a lot of mystery threads where the subject has nothing to do with the actual thread post. This happens to be one of them.

I've seen "video editing" "software" and synth "software" with this same "layout". My "older brother" uses this type of "chaining" to do live "lighting" and sound cues for live "theater" too. I've never wrapped my "head" around it or felt the need to but I know my brother is a "crazy" super genius so Nym I'm "guessing" you are as well.

Jeez, what a thing to get worked up about. In my opinion, the subject of this interesting post, which has now been hijacked by you, tells me that Nym is using stuff on his pc that is neither a single piece of software nor written by him but has been used by him, in an original way that totally suits his needs. The subject says it much more succinctly.

hahhah uh....???? wow.

thanks for the comments, didn't expect it to go in this direction.
a good deal of "real" programming consists of "borrowing" modules and script from banks/websites/others to cut corners on simple functions/work that folks have already done for you

also synthedit and max/msp are extremely graphical interfaces, most definitely still programming of sorts. hell, 90% of the plugins i'm using in this application were themselves coded graphically in synthedit.

as a function/expression of the English programming language, i think quotation marks suit the purpose of presenting a sense of questionability/vagueness/flexibility in general meaning of the contained phrase.

"yeah, after a couple drinks i went back to her place and we went to bed."
--> "oh, sure, 'went to bed...'"
