just starting to dig - any tips for me?

The MPC500 is a good start for making beats. It demands alot out of you to be creative. Kind of like a mini school of hardknocks, you really got to bust your @ss to present anything close to the performance of a 2500 or a 4000. When the time comes that you've mastered this little beast, and want to expand, you'll have a headstart with the other MPCs because you understand the Akai philosophy of making beats.

i just wanted to say that i'm going to start with funk/soul stuff cause thats the music i'm familiar with. of coures i'm going to expand to other music genres and be open to everything but to get my groove startet, i'll go with funk/soul first to get the feeling.

going to buy some vinyl i like and play round with them to start.

and i'm also cool with the 500. i think the 1000 or 2000xl would be thrown pearls before swine for now.
as soon as i reach the limits with the 500 i'm going to upgrade to some else.

Damn I know Austria got some real dope records in the jazz and funk department. Artists no one ever heard of or used, you've gotta alot of material to check out. And don't sleep on Turkey neither, they got the ill shiii. Yall better recognize!

But I'll tell you this, funk, jazz, blues etc. has been embraced by every nation on this planet and there were starving bands out there that wanted to have that status just like the known superstars. Funk is worldwide and its even in India. Check for yourself, those countries have been doing it since its birth.

See, even FreshLab who's new to this was able to mention something.
Concerning Josef Zawinul, he was indeed Austrian yet his recordings (solo & in Weather Report) were pretty much all American and that's where he made practically all of his career. I was referring mostly to artists having recorded or done their career mostly in Austria if you understand what I mean. But I'm definitely a big fan of his music.

Calling me out? Well you got Heidelinde Weis, The Neighbors, and as a bonus Mogollar but I could be wrong with that one. Satisfied? Another thing, I've diggin' since '93 so don't be calling me a poser, after awhile you'll get tired of searching for records that producers broke already, I chose to search for funk in uncharted areas.

Mogollar is Turkish and it's not Funk. I'm sure I've seen a record at some point by an artist going by "The Neighbours" though chances are it was some American Folk or some sh*t so I can't confirm that ish.
It's cool you managed to name Heideline although she's not necessarily a Funk artist.

Miroslav's Magical Shepard is a funk album. But what I was saying before is that there are uncovered and unheard of gems in Austria that FreshLab can keep a heads up on. The only way to discover them is to put the needle on the wax.
