Thanks for your replies.
I'm definitely not gonna consider sampling stereo for the rest of the time to solve this problem.
Still i can't believe Akai hasn't got this report earlier. I got the MPC1000 last week and found the bug the next day.
The MPC1000 is on the market for six months now. I reported the bug to Akai, also never heard of this bug before...
Does anyone know of an e-mail address to report problems in the OS, for instance for the MPC400 it's [email protected] i believe.
Still i think they should give the update that fixes this problem my name : the COWBELL update

Exactly, same here. At one time i had a couple of crash samples in memory and after the the 'zero' disarding of one of them the next sample was playing a couple of the crash samples in a row...backwards. Clearly a memory allocation issue in my view. I guess the fact that stereo samples don't have this problem is a good sign - it is probably an OS issue and not hardware related.
Therefore, DUBNOV you might as well go to the shop and get your MPC back. It's clear all MPC1000's have this bug.

It's a disgrace for Akai that this basic 'old school' function of discarding causes problems in a hardware sampler in 2004.
In my opinion they should fix the bug with the very first OS, no excuses.
Guess it would help if more people mail them about this issue: [email protected]

when pressing the white tap tempo button The mpc was triggering a sample? even when not in play mode? only happened twice, switched it off then on again to fix the problem - anyone else encounter this?

Yeah you're right. Some months ago just a few people had this bug and now it's all over the planet. It's a mystery to me.
My machine had several other bugs. The compressor's attack wasn't working right. I couldn't get the first part of a sample uncompressed. When I put the compressor's gain below zero distorted clicks occurred in the sample. Hope it's hardware stuff, never saw anything posted about that on this forum.
And of course the everlasting occasionaly-sample-not-triggered-by-the-sequencer bug. But that one is hard to prove.
Well at least we're getting somewhere. Can't wait till v1.05.

I e-mailed them my report (US support and JAP headquarters) and they haven't replied yet. If it IS HARDWARE related they might play dumb and keep it quiet. Cause i still find it hard to believe this bug is there unnecessary for half a year...
Why isn't this a worldwide known issue, is everybody sampling and chopping with their Bill Gates machine and not the original/old school way anymore...

Whatever the reason Akai should keep us posted, we pay around 1000 dollars for their machine and we deserve transparency.

Sampie if you get an e-mail answer from Akai please post it here. I'll do they same if i get a reply.

ok i will post . But i spoke to Akai US support direct and they told me the engineering team definitelty verified the problem, after reading the emails from users , they tested and confirmed there is a bug. So they are working the code out . Hopefully it will be soon . As far as the zero start and zero end bug, they are not sure about what causes that but suggested that there is no reason to have your start and end points both trimmed to the value zero--which does make sense -- there really is no use for setting the start and end points of a sample both to zero. But lets see what happens in the next os update.

I would like to have grid programming like the 4000 has.

I got an E-mail from Akai Benelux today, good news! Read it down here:

Bulletin No.: FB-0409
Date: July, 1, 2004 A K A I professional = S E R V I C E B U L L E T I N =
Attn.: Service Manager / Sales Manager Subject: MPC1000 V1.05 Software Release- MPC1000 V1.05 has been released with the following bug fix from V1.04.
[Bug fix] Noise will be occurred on sample or sample name will be damaged, if one sample of several mono samples edit with “DISCARD” in the Trim mode. --- fixed
[Note] 1. O.S. V1.05 for MPC1000 has been uploaded on AKAI professional web-site

I haven't had time to check the update myself but if it solves the problem thumbs up for Akai.
Sampie, obviously you're right about the discarding to zero bug. Normally you wouldn't do that but imagine you trim to zero by accident - all your following samples will be gone. I hope this entire discarding bug is fixed now, after all it doesn't happen when you trim STEREO samples to zero.

Dubnov, i checked that distortion thing and it's the same with my MPC. If i turn the gain of the compressor down to -13 or lower i get a cracking tail after i trigger a sample. Only happens with the MASTER compressor, not the one in FX mode, i think.
This one is not as irritating as the DISCARDING problem but still is a bug that can be fixed in my opinion.
