please help........ready to give up !

was up guys,
can someone please help me in the way music is actually made? my current set up is a mpc2xl, microkorg and a mixer as well as my turntable and mixer setup. im having a really hard time getting my beats to sound rite. i tried adjusting the notes but i still cant get it. i have a love for music and really want to excel in what i do.. can someone please help me or give me some advice. i am really starting to get discouraged! also what is the process as far as making a actual song? is the whole song made on my mpc or jus the hook and main verse section then put together with logic or protools? i know the mpc has a song mode but it doesnt sound rite when i loop it. can any of the advanced members please help....

If I were you, I would try getting either a cheap (i.e. free) or illegal copy of a program like fruityloops that give you a few synths and a drum synth and all that good stuff, and just learn the basics from messing around and getting a couple books on music theory and some sheet music. That's what I did. I also had a real good background in reading sheet music, and I found that that helped me learn this stuff easier then a lot of other people that I knew for some reason. Ur way to fresh to be on a forum if your asking those kinda questions....Even if the answers were poured out for you, u probably still wouldnt get it 100%. U need to open that manual, roll your sleeves up and be prepared to stay awake for some serious late nites

You got some nice equipment there but u need to learn about music and the various facts of production first or you'l become even more discouraged and at a rapid rate.

Good luck with it....Books, magazines and looking over peoples shoulders will be a big help

you got everything you need write beats. you got an MPC2xl, a Korg synth and mixer. Only problem you got is how to mixdown with effects (if you use them), and record your stuff.
you don't need a lot of gear to make tracks. AND you shouldn't have a lot of gear to begin with, else you'll never learn properly with what you got.
As far as learning how to write songs, how long have you been producing? It takes a lot of time to develop as a producer...

u have some major equipment for a newb and bravo said it best on top.. i didnt actually get the hang of beat making until i saw my boy freak a 1 bar loop... from there the lighbulb turned on and its been a wrap since then..

Definitely! That page was made for peeps like you, who are just starting out and need advice! Plus you get a lot of nice samples included in the price!

What I did starting out was try and copy someone elses beats using different percussion and samples. Then I freaked it to the way I wanted it to sound. From there you'll get the basics to do your own tracks.

Practice, practice , practice... and then... practice again. Don't give up bruh. Stick with this forum and you'll gain knowledge.

Try to make beats right now, not songs. 1 or 2 bar sequences. Maybe start with copying the metronome with a high hat. Leave it in record and start adding kicks and snares. Don't try to get a difficult drum pattern yet. Some of the best cuts have simple drum tracks. Put sounds in until ur head begins to nod. Now go to the MicroKorg, and press out a bassline. Simple. Maybe three notes up, three notes down.
Or do it all in reverse with the bassline first.
You gotta stick with it.

AS equi-knocks SAID, DONT TRY TO DO TOO MUCH TO START OFF WITH... CONCENTRATE ON DIFFERENT ASPECTS ONE AFTER THE OTHER....

START WITH A TWO BAR LOOP, AND FIRST GET YOUR RYTHM SECTION TIGHT.... JUST A KICK, A SNARE AND A HAT.... GET THE LOOP GOING AND
AND DO A BIT OF EDITING, LIKE, CHANGING THE VELOCITY OF EACH
HIT, AND MOVING THINGS FORWARD OR BACK BY 1 TICK (EVENT EDIT).... KEEP THE BEAT TIGHT.... PLAY AROUND WITH THE ATTACK OF THE SAMPLES AND THE DECAY, THIS CAN ALREADY MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE FEEL OF YOUR BEAT..... ONCE YOU GOT IT ALL GROOVING, SAVE THAT AND START WITH SAY A SIMPLE BASS LINE AND DO THE SAME, PLAY WITH A BIT OF VELOCITY AND DECAY FOR EACH HIT.... AT FIRST IT WILL DEFINATELY SOUND A BIT ROBOTIC, AND I THINK WE ALL WENT THROUGH THAT A FEW TIMES.... SLOWLY THINGS WILL FALL INTO PLACE, PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.... DON'T THINK YOU CAN BE A DRE IN A MATTER OF MINUTES....

READ ABOUT MIDI, READ ABOUT SAMPLE EDITING EQ AND TRACKING AND DON'T TRY TO DO TOO MUCH IN TERMS OF PRO TOOLS AND THE LIKES... THAT WILL COME PROGRESSIVELY... MASTER EACH PEACE OF GEAR AND KNOW WHAT ALL THE TERMS MEAN IN THE MANUAL.. THAT WON'T BE OVER NIGHT... BUT IN THE END WILL MAKE YOU A GOOD PRODUCER...

if you dont know this already, learn your notes...this doesnt necessarily mean you hafta take a piano class, but learn how notes sit in a measure, how to count beats, rhythm, what notes mean what like whats a 8th note and what is an 8th note triplet and so on....along with just taking your time and reading this forum and your manual and practice....You can make beats without knowign this stuff, but you'll make better beats if you at least have this knowledge.....

check out tweakheadzlab.com they got some article including a newbie bible and some song structure stuff that would set you str8 on some stuff and open up a whole new book of questions. And ^^^ dudes above nailed it about not trying to use everthing at once until you at least understand one machine pretty well. Shyt def can be frustrating just keep learning here, books, web and practice whenever you can.
