The twins want to do something musically too, but haven't decided for sure what they like yet! One is leaning toward bass guitar, the other likes piano...or keys period! I'll pay for lessons if they are serious, but you don't really see drum machine classes being offered!

If my 16 year old can customize all his Playstation & Xbox stuff, he should be able to program & sequence on the XR-20 drum machine!!! I assume??

I would get them their own MPC or perhaps a keyboard workstation. There are plenty of used ones on the market for reasonable prices. This is one of the best things I have done for my kids.

Trust me, I agree with you! I figured the XR-20 is the cheapest of the two and has some sample capabilities! If he sticks to it and doesn't lose interest...I'll upgrade! If he finds it's not his thing...I'll only be out of about $300

I could give him my MPC-2000 classic, but the features are not up to date compared to today's standards. Plus, it's nothing like opening up a box of spankin' new gear...with the new gear smell!!!! :D

Roughly translated: There's no market for what would essentially be a new MPC with a boutique analog block and cost like $4000. Dave Smith isn't down with the project anymore- he's got his own successful product line. The Linn Drum 2 may be out the day before the world ends in 2012.

Good translation.
