I have the MPC for 5 days now and bit bit see through problems how the mixer and FX are organized in the songs.
Am I right that the MPC5000 has one mixer for all songs the same (don't see where to name or save different mixer settings), but you can route FX sets to different programs in the mixer? or does every track has his own mixer?

Usually I would think that hierarchy:

SONG -> mixer -> fx -> tracks -> sequences -> programs -> samples/synth

You can edit FX sets, but you can not save them alone, you can only save entire memory?

Sorry for concerning this in the feature thread, but if it's not that way, than there would be some improvement necessary.

Jauly wrote:btw. I miss a very BASIC function:

save "single song" with everything associated.

I mean the possibility to save a single song and its associated (only used) samples/synths plus fx/programm settings in one folder automatically named after the song. I don't find an option to name a folder on the hd with the mpc. so why not naming it automatically after the saved song?

if I had to load again the song, I just would load the folder and everything for that song would be there then (including fx settings and a cleared memory of all other things).

there now is "save all seq. and songs", which, hmm, sounds a bit confusing for me, because it leaves out the programmes and samples. the only relevant option is "save entire memory" but this can't be the solution, it saves all unused files too.

That is certainly a nice idea. But not so easy to implement if you think of it. The MPC should track down which sequences are used in a song, which tracks are used in those sequences, which synth programs are used in those tracks and which sample programs are used in those tracks and which samples are used in those programs.
Then it should also find out which FX presets are used.

Will ask if this is possible though.

I didn't say it is not possible, I said it could be hard. Depends on how the structure has been setup in the 5k. I slightly remember asking for this a year ago or so. But I will ask again!

This makes good sense with different mixer and fx settings for every song, so that they could automatically be saved seperately next to the seq/sample/program files in the song folder. But I dunno if different mixer/fx settings for different songs in RAM are possible?

Thanks.

The 4k also had a program purge function on top of sample purge. This would purge any unused programs not used in the mixer/song. There really needs to be a way to only load the samples with the song or your song files will be unnecessarily large and waste a ton of disk space loading all those samples when you only needed a couple mb for the whole song.

I noticed JJ implemented track select on the track mute screen. Pressing a function button after pressing track mute turns the pads and banks into track select. Also, holding mode while turning the data wheel will scroll through the track list from any screen. He even added the ability to name the midi ports and channels with devise names like the 4k. He added zero cross and quantize strength from the 5k plus a nice chord function. All coming today in os2xl. Numark where ya at.

I really like this. However, I wish the MPC 5000 can do this with a slight twist. I want it to memorize MSB/LSB settings. In other words, if I name a MIDI port Fantom G, pull up external Program No 26 (name it NY Grand Brt 2), and then input MSB: 87, LSB: 64....I want this infornation stored in flash ROM. So anytime I select NY Grand Brt 2 in the future, it will recall the correct MSB/LSB settings. This feature is in software sequencers which have the ability to import patch scripts.

First...welcome to the forum. It appears you are new around here.

If you have an issue ad need some help or want it addressed...simply write a step by step guide on how to produce your problem. You will have to give specifics. Akai is watching the forums and any issues will be addressed.

As far as the Q-link decay problem...I reponded to you in 1 or 2 threads about this but didn't get any feedback. Did you try what I suggested?

I am not so sure that the problems you had with the Q-links and decay is a bug....(I could be wrong though)..

1. Pad Mutes. I would like Pad Mutes to also work on external MIDI sound modules. I would like it to mute the note numer assigned to a pad, if it is possible. Currently, it only works on internal sounds.

Ok. Here is another:

mpc3500 showed off what he could do with using a patched phrase. I have never used a patched phrase for anything..not in 3 years. But I can see some possibilities. It would be awesome if you can edit the MIDI sequence data in a patched phrase....like re-arrange the chops. I believe some one here suggested this before. But how about chopping a sample and creating a program, and then record a sequence. Than export this sequence as a patched phrase. Then we can have some sort of patched phrase library for each project :D

Now that sounds good. The Korg M3 has this feature sort of. It is called RPPR. Any phrase or sequencer track data can be triggered by the keys with the RPPR function and be resequenced if desired. It does not interact with slicing and the Korg does not have a patched phrase though. It would be nice to merge these two features. It would also be cool if the patched phrase sequence data could be written to the track so you could rearrange it in grid edit. There is a software VSTi called Guru that does this. Kind of a morph between reason and patched phrase plus rppr.

I'd like to be able to change the sample start point on the fly, preferably using Q-Link. Can that be done? I've only had the 5000 for a couple of days. :)
