Software is OK. PC's on the other hand are a totally different story... A month ago I had to replace the PSU. Now I need to replace the MO/BO also cause it got damaged by the old PSU. Aside from that, my E-MU 1212 is having issues now with the ASIO drivers. On top of that, Adobe Audition still fails to utilize all my VST FX and I have to refresh them everytime I run it (it takes around 15 minutes to refresh all of them). While on the same time I need to add some more RAM to the existing 2GB(!) 833MHz DDR2, cause it seems "not enough" these days...And I don't add to the above the need for a second TFT screen, cause all the VST's can't fit anymore on just one and still be user friendly.

In the meantime, all my MPC's are running like water and music keeps on coming out of them....Can you spot the difference?

PS Replacing my PC with a Mac is out of the question. I'd rather blow a couple of $ on some nice keyboards than buying something that is PROVED to fail around 3 years after it's purchase.

15 minutes?!! How many Vst plugs are you running?

I have never had this problem, so I can't help you, but if you keep having this problem, try http://www.audiomastersforum.net/amforum/index.php

If you haven't already...

I am not saying a computer is better then an MPC, however I do believe somewhere you went wrong in your computer setup or organization because those symptoms dont seem normal at all. To often you see the comparison between an MPC and DAW, as if you are only entitled to one thing to make music. Better yet, you see the comparison of hardware vs software. The fact of the matter is, most hardware are actually specialized computers running software. I say get the best of both worlds... dont limit yourself, I dont see the point of being "loyal" to a product or better yet, a product type.

Also, apple vs microsoft.. what a rediculous arguement. That is exactly what apple wants you to argue about. Apple found a way to sell computers that are made up of a motherboard with everything integrated for twice or three times the price of a PC.. as for the OSX OS, all that is is a UNIX based OS just like linux (but not as flexible)

Did you know it is possible to run OSX on a PC? (average difference in price: $1000)

i tired a few software... Live, Reason, FL7... FL being the best out of the three IMO.

and I just tried Logic... and ill be getting it ASAP to start rebuilding my studio...

the only software i can say is worth the time, money and effort... im probably not even getting a MPC anymore... gonna midi all my stuff up to Logic and use it as my main sequencer and DAW...

next things on the list...

Interface Audio/MIDI
s950
Ms2000 or ESQ
Analog Mixer

it might also be great teamed up with the mpc5000 if it is possible to link up the pads and the keys for the synth... A whole new ball park would be made if you could set the keys for the synth and the pads to trigger samples at the same time.

major reason why i hate software aside from the obvious is, all the programing and setups you have to do before you can start making music...

the way i've heard it, there's way less steps in software recording than cleaning tape heads, calibrating tape decks, and performing all the other mundane tasks of pre-digital recording

people balk at even the easiest difficult task if it doesn't have a kind of coolness to it...making beats is not a glamorous pastime

i dont use tapes... i use Audacity... and no midi or pro tools to track my beats out... i do it old school...

everything to the mixer and then the PC... i master on the mixer then send it to the PC to record and add FX... just one track.

only software that i can say puts good use of the knobs is Kore 1 and Kore 2...

my point being is i rather power up a MPC and be ready to make music...

then power up a Software... load a VST... then find out half the VST presets and sounds arnt in the same directory... so u have to reinstall it or find the files, blah, blah, blah...

hardware is just more reliable... and i dont like to sit in front of a PC screen and assign a bunch of knobs to use something that doesn't even physically exists...

to each his own, but for my creative routine i'm in total agreement with this guy. working with software and midi just involves to much technical bs that im simply not patient enough for or just make the process drag for me.

im sure once everything is set up with software its a lot more efficient, but its still just not my cup of tea.

all i need is my usb enabled 16 track recorder. i do all my work in that. when im done i just send each individual track to my pc via usb and into whatever DAW i want to edit with for a little further tweaking. done deal.

no having to, worry about interface, why i cant hear my sound, midi, soundcards, delay, clicking through folders etc.

at the end of the day, no particular method is for everybody but to me hardware as the foundation with a little of software integration is where its at.

I wish for the same but all hardware driven. Have like an MPC 5000 mixed with an ASR 10. Tons MORE sounds & abilty to easily sample to pads or keys, and also have abilty to use as controller. But if this was out, then alot fo company's would go under.

I think if that were true, it would have been done already. I mean, do you want to pay like 6 grand for something like that? ... but who know though, maybe that mpc 5000xl that people are talking about will be your dream come true.

unless of course they frankenstein an mpc and a moog together.
