filtering/envelope question

has anybody ever noticed when adjusting the filter and/or envelope of a sound it kinda sounds slightly different when everytime you hit the pad or when you play it back from your sequence?

like if im filtering a sample and trying to get the bass as hard as possible their will be a slight pop sound over it when you hit the pad but sometimes not. is it safe to say that i should just keep filtering to the point where i cant hear it at all? even thought its not as hard sounding?

maybe its just my headphones not catching the pop at certain times. or maybe distortion from too much low frequency.

just thought it odd that i dont hear it ALL the time.

The fact that you mention a "pop", it makes me think that the beginning of the sample/sound is not chopped correctly. This is usually what happens with me, but with you it might be different.

no its not that. i know what you mean though, but i only get that sort of pop when i got some dirt left at the end of my chop.

this is a different sort of "pop" like a high end pop on top of the low end not before right when you hit the pad. its really really subtle and it probably doesnt matter once you put drums over it and eq but i just think its weird.

Try lowering the resonace of the filter, or adjusting the attack of the filter down. It may not be a pop you are hearing, it could just be the the attack of the filter is not synced up with amount of the resonance you have set. If you play around with these settings you notice that the pop will move to the center front, center, or end of the sample. Just tweak these settings till the pop is gone. It sounds like you are hearing the trigger of the lfo, not a sample chop...

my guess is your speakers / monitoring system. Just a thought.

never had that happen on the mp but on electribe ea when you tweak it to have a big low end there is sometimes a pop, not when you do like glides or stuff like that, just when you hit a single note or tap it(tap that bass)

I have this happen. What is happening is that when you press the pad the second time, the first sound is still playing. Once the second pad is pressed, the first sound is cut off. If the sound wave is interrupted you get that glitchy sound.

Imagine the sound you are playing is a loop. When you press the pad the second time its like coming to your loop point. If you loop a sound and the loop point starts when the waves amplitude is the greatest and ends when the wave is at minimal amplitude, the same effect occurs. When playing a sample out on the pads, you cant exactly hit the pad immediately as the waveforms align, because you cant see the waveform (even if you could, I think the visual waveform on the display is false 1/2 of the time)

It is impossible to eliminate that glitch unless you use the envelope.
