I'm getting ready to install one in mine. They're very inexpensive and it doesn't take a lot to install. Pretty easy IMO.

Is the only advantage of DVD is that it can read more data or will it be faster as well?

Anyone know what the top burning speed of the Akai is?

Sort of confused about this because of the Akai OS...

Any cons? Will it still be able to read Akai CD's?

I think this would be the best one to install
-DVD-MultiPlayer/CD-RW combination drive-
because I don't think a 4k can burn DVD data right?

Thanks

It will only be able to read data. If you find a DVD ROM drive it will be cheaper. The only advantage is being able to access more info from one disk. It will not be faster.

yes, i had one in my machine, it worked well.

i could still burn cd's on my mpc,
and i could read dvd roms that were burned on my computer.

very convenient, as i could keep large sample libraries on one disc.

Thanks for the info guys that clears up a few things.

Don't know if I need that seems like it would be cool but I do have a hard drive in my 4k
so I can just store all the data there..

If you have the original HD the 4K came with (desk star) change it out soon because
it will fail.

Just google IBM desk star & you will see..

If he has one of the "original" IBM desk star HDD still in there, most likely he will not have a problem. It would have failed by now.

did you hook this mod up?

No I passed on that.

Don't need it I have a 120 gig HD & CDR built in as well as a few usb flash drives that covers everything I need.

I also had the OG desk star but swapped it out after talking to FORAT about it.
He recommended replacing it, so I did the swap myself have a Seagate now..
