OS2XL is slightly smaller then OS2

I have to agree, we're not talking about computers that have their virtually "unlimited" resources compared to the MPC. How many GBs worth of OS exist in Windows XP/Vista alone just for backwards compatibility? We've known on the MPC that OS space is a commodity and JJ has always been right at the limit of what can possibly be squeezed in there before the MPC can't hold any more.

At least in the MPC space if we want forward progress we're going to have to accept that we're going to need to sacrifice some things and especially backwards compatibility. We can at least hope that between Major OS updates things will stay compatible.

I'm sure there is a group of people who need feature X in a given OS and they chose to stick to the previous OS or they end up working with the new one and figuring out how to do X given what they have. Yeah, it requires blood sweat and tears to figure out the work arounds or to port over existing projects... but on the plus side if you really don't want to port over an existing project you can at least go back to an older OS. I could understand the frustration more if it was undocumented that it was a one way upgrade. The missing features/issues are pretty well documented in the forums at this point and nobody is being forced to upgrade.

furthermore i'd like to point out that akai DID take away a feature with an OS upgrade:

from os 1.07 to os 2.01, they all but took away our ABILITY TO SAVE A DAMN PROJECT

You're right, we'd all be so lucky to go back to the good old days of Akai OS where each bug was maintained with 100% compatibility with the next release.

Is the cable company amateurish when they make changes to their channel line-up that removes channels that you really like from your subscription? Is Microsoft amateurish when they remove features from their products that break backwards compatibility like Vista has? How about Apple, they have broken various backwards compatibility with every release of OS X. Are the supermarkets amateurs when they no longer carry your favorite brands? When your favorite band releases a new album that sounds wildly different from their previous works do you think of them as amateurs?

Just curious what condones amateurish behavior in your mind. I have a feeling what you are considering amateurish most people would consider progress. While change can be painful, it also promotes positive growth.

Well it is a nice box...

there is only one real beef i have with the os decisions that have been made. and that is the constant raising of the price on legacy software. because the sales on os2 were slower than anticipated it drove up the price of 0s1. then os 2xl hits the market and just before it drives up the overall prices again. my beef is this. you can not install os2 or 2xl without the install and purchase of os1 prior. so drive up the older software price because if anybody wants the new stuff they have to buy this first. this is the only company (and i say company because this is a buisness for them) that raises the price of the legacy product as the new one releases. not even apple or microsoft does this. matter of fact nobody does this. it is backwards to common business practice and is the reason i have not paid anymore money after os1. and i got it at the cheaper price point.

that has everything to do with the falling usd dollar - no amount of programming will ever solve that bug
