buying more ram

hey guys couple of questions about upgrading the ram from 256 to 512.
1.whats a good brand to buy?i know what stick i need,i just want something solid.
2.is there directions anywhere about installation?i know on my 2000xl they were in the book but i didnt see any in the basic manual.

This is just an example of what will work in the 4k http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0264174. Although you can go with a reputable brand name, anything with the required specs should work.

But IMO, budget ram is a risk. I personally would avoid taking this route.

Oh, and one last thing, you probably know that you'll need two 256 sticks instead of one 512 stick in order for the 4k to see it.

And there's a link somewhere (which I can't think of at the moment) that details the removal of the case. I can tell you now that for starters, the three screws in both side panels need to be removed first. Then there's other smaller screws that need to be removed around the front & side casing.

It's not hard to deal with once you've done it once or twice. But I'll see if I can locate that link.

yeah i have 256mb right now.so im guessing its one stick.

does anyone know the exact ram stick that it comes with?id like to get the exact same one so i dont have any compatability issues.

Nobody's answering you because the answer has been given to you already. The ram used in the 4k (which is computer compatible) is different from ram used in the other mpc's. The specs are posted above.

Just buy the RAM that I have been recommending for years!!!

Kingston Value RAM model # 100x64c 2/256 3.3V

That is the exact model I use to install in the 4K and Z samplers when I use to work at AKAI. I've been using the same 2 sticks of RAM for years, no problems.
