Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

It drives me crazy and has been for years using the XL. When I make some small loops on the xl it always Pops at the end as it loops around. I can never get around it! I might have to just say fuk it and buy a different mpc.

Buying another mpc is not the answer. Don't be one of them people that just throw money at a problem
and expect it to be fixed. If you use the same techniques you will end up having the same problem, and therefore, money gone, lol.

What you need to understand that the beginning of the wave form and the end of the waveform have to be the exact same volume/voltage. Clicks and pops are the result of a misaligned waveform when it loops around. A sharp drop or increase in volume/voltage will cause a click/pop. How many times have you heard or read here about "zero crossing point". That's what you need to do. Edit your very beginnging and very end to be at the same volume as each other and you will eliminate the pop/click.

DAMMIIT, you made me go over 30 words....

See how the waveform MEETS each other inside the circle? RIGHT at the 0db line? THAT, is a zero cross point.

So if you loop at that point the waveform can flow smoothly when looped. See how that works. It has to be a smooth transition from end LOOP to start.

There's another way around that, except the Zero Crossing Points. Try putting the attack inside the PARAMS screen to 1 or 2 and the decay on 99 at END. This way, you can get a barely noticeable fade in/out in order to stop those clicks/pops.

However, the best way is to edit those chops correctly is with the Zero Point Rule.

and the 2kxl is not gonna give u an accurate visual cue for zero crossings.....

gotta use them things hangin on the sides of ur head

i dont get too many pops. if any. never knew of that zero thing. i've just been making sure i zoom in to get the beginning and ends as accurate as possible.

also if you adjust the envelope in the programs screen in the attack and decay you can make the transitions a little more subtle.

Yeah Ive Tried using the envelope settings and it doesn't do anything. Imma try out that zero crossing thing though

I never got why Akai didn't do this on the MPC-2000XL
Look here is a screen shot of an Akai S-3000 series loop screen

Oh look it's only about 10000 times better
You can join youe end and start points to mach and you can also press find for the sampler to find the perfect x-over point then you got the option to x-fade to make any clicks if there are any go away and you can normalize the sample if it's too quiet.
Some one needs to re-write the OS for the XL to include that
Akais that I know do this are:
S3000
S2800
S3200
S3000XL
S3200XL

Shame I dont own an S3000 any longer :( I'm going to buy one again though in the new year just for the EB-16 FX board though to stick in my MPC :o
