I LOVE THE RESAMPLING FEATURE!!!

I just read today how to do it! I have a Korg Kaoss pad that i got a LONG time ago. Now, seeing that the MPC itself doesnt have many effects, THIS WILL WORK PERFECTLY!

I can add effects without going back and forth from my computer!

Yay for me! I knew i didnt buy this thing for nothing...

Ha! i think i misread. It was talknig about effects that are internal in the MPC, not external? dammit.

Is there a way to do this?

I've found that I lose volume when I resample.

The reason that you are loosing volume is probably related to your <master Level> setting, located at [mode+pad10]. If this is not set to 0, you will be resampling with the attenuation setting here example: -6dB will cause an a volume decrease of 6 dB . just set it to zero before you resample.

You need to be careful to listen to the sample for distortion as you get ready to resample, if you have stacked a few drums together you may actually be clipping.. (avoiding this is the whole point of the master level setting)

lowering your levels in the mixer will give you a finer grade of control --as oposed to the 6dB steps you take in the master level setting.

I typically use the resample to bounce down drums that Ive stacked up, I usually route those sounds through either an EQ or the compressor and trim back from clipping , I guess the master section FX would work for that as well.

You can resample through external FX if you want, because the 1k can sample while playing, you can run the outputs to your Effcts box then backinto the inputs and it works just the same.

I have the ins and out of the 1k run to my patchbay when I want to add a sound from one of my synths I just patch it direct to the 1k inputs* and put the MPC on the "sample" screen.. adjust input and play along with my groove --when im ready to record I just hit [sample] trim it up and play it in with on the pads.

* i actually run a tube a/d converter infront of the Mpc's inputs and set the 1k to the digital inputs.. add a bit of tube gritty

-I know someones yellin bout why I don't just sequence the synths in w/ midi.. I do if the part is going to evolve over time , but I don't quantize basslines, other than a couple variations I don't f@@ck w/ em much.. with 128 ram and a couple 512mb cards Id rather just forget about dragging my synths to work needlessly.. plus my fat lady ,b.i.t.c.h. has no midi anyhow

So what's the best to set it at? 0db? Mine is set at -12 now.

there really isn't a blanket answer. idealy, the signal should be as close to 0 as possible, going over will cause brittle distortion [digital clipping] the master level setting is a pad to prevent this. if you don't have all your volumes cranked up or have many sounds layered, you can leave it at zero, this would be putting the least amount of processing on your sound, and will deliver the best sound [manula uses the term powerful, i think]
the point is to run as close to the limit as possible.. so either use your mixer to keep each pad under control, or use the master level to trim them all back.. .. to further confuse the issue, I suggest setting the master level to zero and using the gain on the master compressor..because it is adjustable in finer 1dB increments if you set the thresh-hold high and the ratio low.. you probably won't be doing much compression so you don't need to worry if you don't know how to setup compression.
