Don't worry. There's a 99.99% chance you have a reissue on your hands. If you're really interested in finding out though you should just look at the cover. If it's glossy=reissue. If the inside part of the cover is white instead of brown=reissue.

got it.

seems like a reissue.
but not enough for that, it also seems like a bootleg.

the print quality of the small letters on the back of the cover look kinda crapy...

i was lucky with the brass construction IV and the hayes hot buttered soul, the look old, are yellowish on the inside and smell like a 200 year old book.
coped some originals.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about those. They're pretty common and haven't been reissued that I know of yet. The issue you're talking about concerning that Roy Ayers LP is pretty common. For some reason all the reissues of his LP's and most of Polydor's recordings seem to have that same flaw when it comes to the writing. It's kind of blurry and whatnot. Besides that LP would cost you like $90 if it were an OG.
Overall you did pretty well for a first dig.

okay, i'll keep my eye on that polydor writing flaw, thanks for the info!

a successful digging-career to come!

one question: the shaft soundtrack....

the vinyl store had a singleLP version and a 2LP version of it..
both original, the doubleLP a bit more expensive.

are they rare?

i think i gotta cop one just because of bumpys lament...

I've never heard of a single LP pressing of Shaft. It might just be an LP of Shaft covers. The 2LP pressing is pretty much of the most common Blaxploitation soundtracks out there. So it's not rare but has some good music. The version of "Bumpy's lament" you might be looking for is NOT the one that appears on Isaac Hayes' 2LP.

it looked the same as the 2LP shaft vinyl...
with isaac hayes on the top right

and it was definitaly a 1LP... gotta check it...

to bumpys lament: is it the soul mann & the brothers - shaft LP?

Either that or Superdudes' cover. They sound pretty much alive.

I say grab the 1LP version because I have 3 copies of shaft and they are all the 2 versions. That is if you wanna keep it collection wise.

phil collins is excellent with those toms... if you are into that type of stuff you might find it worth while checking into Genesis...
