please please can someone answer this question

ok, I'll explain this as clear as possible. say I hook up my mpc through a midi controller and I only have one sound loaded in the mpc (for example), lets say this is a piano note in C, could I then assign that C note to the midi controller and go up and down scales using the keys or would the midi conroller only be able to effect things such as velocity, tune, and attack etc.....in the same way the pads would.
