what tpye of monitors should i get

I finally got my mpc 1000 for christmas and i want to start getting the other things i need. I have about 300 to spend. Also i've seen some adds that have a single monitor would it be a good idea to get that?

Alesis have sum good monitors..and pretty gud in price... check craigslist or ebay to begin with...dont hurt to find em a little used, but a whole lot cheaper!!

i just bought new monitors today so here is a rundown of what i experienced

i went into guitar center (yea i know but its basically the only place i can test out monitors right then and there and make an immediate purchase, besides the guys in the "pro audio" dept at the one near me are actually pretty solid guys) to test out monitors because im moving into a smaller room and the ones i have are way to big (mackie mr8's) im going to keep the 8s for final mix down but i want some solid 5's so i can fit them into my setup comfortably.

i tested the following

mackie mr5 - 161.00 each
yamaha hs50's - 150.00 each
krk rockit 5's - 137.00 each
maudio bx5a deluxe - 269.00 for the pair


i must say out of all of them i really really really liked the yamahas and maudios.

mackies sounded a little muddy (im sure it can be refined) but the bass response was good.
the krks were ok a tad better than the mackies.
the maudios were clear across the board! not as great a bass response but enough to make a small room light up. the mids and highs were pretty damn clean and crisp same goes with the yamahas

i eventually went with the yamahas because they do have a few more options in the fine tuning dept than the bx5as

but dont knock the maudios i use to own the older bx5a before the deluxe models and they were pretty banging

mackie

if you really like the rockits you could get the krk 6's 199.00 each (i know out of your price range) but they come in a banging ltd yellow

did u try the subwoofers with each one to,cause i heard the subwoofers for the maudios r pretty dope...

if you can, get a pair of good monitors from the start so they will last you and dont have to upgrade.

I been hearing good things about yamaha HSM80 around here.

if you looking at krk rp 5 I would suggest checking alesis m1active620 instead.

in the price range you'll also find popular behringer truth.

no i didnt just what was hooked up which was the l and r speakers. i wouldnt doubt that the maudios are dope they are a pretty good brand at a cheap price

yeah i heard alot of good reviews on them m-audio model, im in the market serching for some good monitors my self havent decided yet,because i wont long term type **** ya know.....

I think those Behringer's are popular only because their size, their price point, and the fact that they look like genelec's.
They sound horrible and actually hurt my ears.
I had a set and I couldn't bear to work on them, of course though that is my opinion and your mileage may vary.
It's important to remember that if you are wanting monitors to actually monitor your mix with, then your goal should be to find speakers that accurately represent what exists in your mix. That means that the ones that sound best in the store may not be the best choice because they may be leading you to believe things sound better than they do.
Of course, if you aren't using them for mixing and just want to hear what is coming out of your MPC and other gear, then who cares - get what you like and what sounds best to you, even if it is home speakers.

just about anything in that price range will be shit. might as well save the money and hook up your house stereo

i have home speakers as i stated in the other thread cant remeber which one,but havin these home speakers is a lot of work on ur ears to me anyway and they surround sound i so dont know to many peeps using home speakers..i just want my **** to be clear and sound good whether its mixing on them or just bangin out **** feel me.iv been to g.c. many times looking for the right type of monitors for my studio its time to change,my sound is growing so will my studio....

the bad news i'm still looking.

the good news is my price range is $500 now.

man... i used to use some old shelf stereo speakers and i thought they were fine til i actually got real monitors. the sound is so much more clearer now. plus your productions will sound better since you are hearing everything with a much more clear signal. i would just look around there are tons of nice monitors out there in the 500$ range KRK has a very nice line of monitors. thats what i have. anyway good luck bruh.

yeah alesis makes some good stuff, its really just all preference. i know people that have very inexpensive monitors, and some who have ridiculously expensive ones. but for a home studio you just need some that have a good clear sound with some decent low end to them. well good luck with the alesis monitors i hope they work out for you.
