There's an old thread about this very same problem someone created a long time ago in which I that I responded to in search of a solution because I was having the same issue.
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=60913&hilit=mpc+1000+programs The only real solution, although not perfect, is computer software that converts various sampler program formats, like Translator in which someone has already just mentioned in a previous post. Another is Awave Studio which worked for me.
I've tried the free version of Translator which should supposedly work as it seems to support both MPC1000 and MPC4000 conversions as was as akai .AKP formats. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a successful conversion of my MPC1000 programs to MPC4000 format. I kept getting errors during the Translation process every time as if there's a bug in the software. If anyone can get this tor work with Translator, please let me know and inform me how you were able to convert it. I'm not spending any money on Translator unless/until I can get this to work flawlessly.
However, I was able to get a successful translation of my MPC1000 programs to the .AKP S5000/6000 format which the MPC4000 supports using Awave Studio by FMJ Software.
http://www.fmjsoft.com/ Although I could convert, the conversions weren't perfect and there was still some work involved. After the conversion, you would retain all of your keymapping across the MIDI keyboard. However, you would lose all of your pad information so you would have to reassign the samples to the pads on the MPC4000 by going to pad assignment and matching the midi note number of the keyboard sample to the specified pad. You would also lose some of the articulation and you may have to make some adjustments to parameters such as envelopes, filters, and a few other things. Despite the drawbacks, at least I didn't have to recreate the entire programs from scratch because that really is time consuming and a pain in the ***. I would much rather be making music then spending a lot of time porting programs.
Unfortunately just like the MPC1000 programs, MPC1000 sequences won't load into the MPC4000 directly either. Therefore, you would have to convert the MPC1000 sequences to standard midi files on the MPC1000 before transferring them to the MPC4000. Then you would have to make proper adjustments on the MPC4000 for them to sound right, which can also be time consuming.
I wish Akai made another final OS update to the MPC4000 to at least allow for compatibility of the MPC1000 and 2500 programs and sequences before abandoning it and moving on to the MPC5000, since the MPC4000 was still the "Flagship" at the time and it is still more advance than the MPC1000 and MPC2500.
I guess that's Akai "Professional" for ya. Anyhow, Awave Studio is your work around if you can't get Translator to work.
