Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

I use my 500 all the time. This is my second one. I take it with me sometimes. I bang on the pads. I quickly chop while I hit buttons rapidly. And most importantly - to stop the playback of long sounds, I vigorously hit the stop button several times in a row. After hundreds (thousands?) of these stop button mash-fests, my stop button is hella loose. I can wiggle it around, and it gets stuck sometimes. I'm afraid one day it won't work...

Is there any thing I can do about this? I don't even feel like checking if it's under warranty because even if it were, that would leave me MPC-less for a period of time. I have some tools and no experience with this sort of thing. If someone can give me some tips I can probably find a friend to do it for me if I can tell them what to do or if it sounds easy enough I'll give it a try myself. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks.

Some Googling turned up this thread:

I'd open it up and look at the plastic above the switch and if the base of it has been cracked somehow. If not, I'd look at the switch itself. If the plastic is just busted then that's all you need to fix; the switch itself is bad then you'll need to fix that.

As far as the warranty goes, is not having it for a couple weeks really going to kill you? The green play light on my 500 has been dead for a couple months now but it never has bothered me enough to care.

here's a cool tip i discovered for stopping all long one shot samples that continue to play long after you pressed stop.

go into trim mode then press the sequence button, anything that was playing will stop instantly

" I vigorously hit the stop button several times in a row. "

I do the same thing and I was kind of worrying about it also.
I have to agree with bedouin though about getting warranty service. If you can still get it, take advantage of it. Because that button isn't gonna heal itself, its only gonna get worse.
I dont think the turnover to MO should be so bad. They'll probably say a month, but it will end up being less.
