for those using an asr 10 alongside their mpc 2000xl.....

how specifically do you use them in conjunction?

i have never messed with an asr but i was over my friends and he has one.. from what i could tell it does a lot of the same thing the mpc does...

the effects he showed me were amazing and i could see using those with the mpc..

i own a 2000xl and i know a lot of people have both..

from what i've read, it seems like most people sequence on the mpc, as the asr's sequencer is shitty....

so do most of you sample into the asr, and then toss over into the mpc or what? im a bit confused..

i guess what im asking is..... specifically how do you get the best of both machines integrated..

my friend is willing to part with the machine and i'd like to know if it would be a good pick up.

if somebody could sort of just run down an example of the steps taken in making a beat with both machines, it would be greatly appreciated....

i just want to get an idea of what the asr can add to what i already have, other than the effects....which i must say, i wa greatly impressed with.

i searched through old posts and i get a general idea of what the asr can do.. but it seems like the mpc does most of it as well...minus the effects..

im just asking, to anybody that owns both, how they go about working both machines together..

It's not really about what they do it is how they do it. The ASR and the MPC are similar in the fact they are both samplers and that is it. Each one has it's own very unique sound and features. You already hit on the effects, the ASR also has a very warm sound to the samples not t metion Normalization and other goodies before you even add an effect. My setup is as follows: I use the MPC for sequencing and drums and I use the ASR for all other samples and drums as well. I generally layer my drums with samples from both machines. There is something about the sound of the sample in the ASR vs. the original sample. The combo is tight tho IMO. Make sure you get the SCSI and 16 MB of RAM on your ASR or you'll be sorry. I agree completely...Also, the filters in the ASR-10 are incredible...As a matter of fact, the sample editing is incredible on the ASR-10. In terms of reliablity, it's built like a tank; I've have mine for 11 years with only 1 repair (the motherboard). Lastly, be sure to keep the ASR-10 well ventilated because it heats up fast.
