Connecting the 500 to a Microkorg

So, for Christmas, I got the MPC 500 and a microkorg, but I needed the cables to connect them. I noticed that in the user manual it mentions connecting via MIDI cables, but the guy at guitar center recommended doing it with normal 1/4" cables through the L and R in/out. I tried doing that, and nothing happened. I couldn't really find anything in the manual about this either.

Does anyone know if this is possible? If so, how do I do it? Am I going to need MIDI cables?

Do you want to sequence the microkorg from the MPC?


If so, you will need connect the midi out from the korg to the midi in on the MPC. Then (you've guessed it!) the midi out of the mpc goes to the midi in on the Korg.

As for hearing anything...

To hear any thing you will need to take 2 x 1/4 inch leads from the audio outs of the Korg and the MPC (so that's 4 1/4" leads) and connect to a mixer which in turn is connected to your amp and monitors/speakers.

Alternatively if you have no mixer

You can take 2 x 1/4 leads from the audio outs of the korg and connect them to the audio IN of the MPC. Then run the audio outs from the mpc to your your amp and monitors/speakers.. You will need to have the mpc in sampling mode to hear anything though (mode + pad4).

I'd reccomend buying the MPC book that flogged on this site as it really will help you get going and really get into the 500.

It covers all of this and more.
