What do you mean saying "never works properly"?

Well i sent my yamaha digital mixer 3 times to get it repaired and it seem like they never got it done it kept on breaking until they sent me brand new unit.Same thing happen with my digital recorder,so i had bad experience with hardware repairs. In this case you motherboard might be fuked up and that's a hart of the unit.

3 weeks ago somebody (maybe the same guy) posted exactly the same problem, he killed his mpc by putting the additional ram the wrong side in. He was advised to send his MPC to Akai and deleted the post in the meantime.

Is it not clearly described with what side you have to put the expansion in?

Damn. Next time read the instructions dude!...lol

I figured a few people would get into trouble with the RAM - that's why I included the RAM upgrade within my sticky 'So you want to upgrade your MPC 5000?' - guess you didn't read that in time...?

Hope you got it fixed now bro?

I posted this elsewhere before I saw this thread sorry.
I first got my 5k I had to install the ram myself.
I was so excited I began to fit it but was not sure it was square to the board.
I switched on the machine and there was just a white line through the display
I tried to yank if off to refit it and a plastic sleeve came right off..
Exposing around forty delicate gold female sockets.
I had calm down and straighten my pins and put the plastic sleeve back on.
After refitting and making sure it was square I switched my 5k on and all has worked like a charm since.
Point is those 128 memory board can be pretty tricky to fit.
Get Akai to do it or an authorised dealer...
