do i need an mpc??

How is it going lads? i'm looking to buy a machine...for looping samples.

i've been told by many a coolhead that the Mpc is the way to go.
but i'm still not sure

basically...i make tunes on a laptop...but i want to start playing live WITHOUT any laptop softcore bullshit.
basically i can render/mix down my tunes into seperate small samples...and then i want to take them out to play/trigger live on the mpc(?)

this is all i want to do...so i'm not sure if i need an mpc or is there a loopstation/alternative sampler that i could use?

what you want is ableton live IMO

the mpc is great but better suited to composing and writing...although you could use it the way you are talking about you would be better off just picking up an MPD 32 to go with your DAW

Honestly... a newer MPC (because he'll need all that RAM) would be money for what he wants. Especially using the Next Sequence mode, with all his tunes nicely looped in individual sequences.

i'll definitely check out that mpd 32 as it sounds more along the lines of what i'm looking for.
i have ableton already but am looking to replace the software because i just don't trust the bastard

is this correct? does it work as standalone?

nah, with the mpd youll need a laptop. thats actually the thing i was talkin to ya about, sent ya a vid..

if he does decide to go with an mpc what model do ya think would best suit his needs? im thinkin the 500 or the 1000 just cause they are nice and portable.

ive never used one of the newer models but i think ease of use would be important for live stuff. i know what your sayin bout the extra ram but one of the newer mpcs would be cluttered with a whole load of options he probably wont need for what he wants to do.

you can get either mpc or sp series (303, 404, 505)

thats the sp 505. dont know much about the sp series. looks like a nice piece of kit tho. reasonably priced too

hmm seems ok but i reckon i'll go for the mpc500 man.
the shape of that roland is a bit off-putting

The Roland SP series are cool and quick to pick up but my complaint about them is the timestretch feature, which makes your samples sound as if they sucked the fat one and gargled the deposit. I got the 303, 505, and the 606 and they all got that problem. I didn't get the 555 for that reason, so that's I turned to the MPC500 instead and so far its been good.
