ok, I saw that after I wrote that^ but it doesn't makes sense at all, to me. We're gonna see in 3days. osxl is not fully stable, well even if it is.. we cannot say that for sure, now.
I send him a quest about it, hope he's not too busy :)

completely agree with both these points. this is the best way to approach it.

get a group of people on board and present a prioritized list of the features we'd like to see brought to OS 2. let JJ know that we are willing to pay him to implement these features and see what the response is. i don't see what the harm is in that.

he's raised the price of OS 1 & OS 2 multiple times, now he's 'bundling' all 3 OS's together and making you buy all 3 of them together even if you only want to get one. JJ is just as much motivated by money as anybody else. he has to eat, pay his rent, etc.

...and that's fine. i want to help you, JJ !
just pop a few of the new features into OS 2 and i'm willing to pay you extra... above and beyond what i already paid for OS 1, 2, & 2XL !
win for everybody.

bottom line... OS 2 sold less than OS 1, OS 2XL is selling less than OS 2.
i think JJ is starting to see that he can no longer support himself only from coding for the MPC.

this day was inevitable. even if Akai comes out with a new MPC1000, JJ will still be locked out of the source code & won't be able to do OS's for it.

If he would drop the Arp and Chord function, then re-up a few of the OS2 functions, XL would be a wrap.

very interesting point and i pretty much agree. would JJ be willing to do it? would he be able to bring back the q-links and mixer automation? i'd love for this to be true but somehow i very much doubt this will happen. that's why i asked him point blank if there was ANY chance of bringing these features back and the answer was NO.

My 2 cents. I would love to see a version 2b, and I would be glad to pay another $15 for it. NYM, this would not have to signal the end of the xl os at all. Since the work is already done, all JJ would have to do is add the lines of code to version 2. I think ultimately we are coming to a stage of design your own type of OSes. where you either choose say 5 functions from a list of ten to compliment an already solid foundation, or you simply choose from several different complete operating systems designed for specific workflows. You have to understand that everyone is just trying to have their cake and eat it too by not letting any of thier favorite options go. We are really all on the same side here.

So here's my list:

1. Pad to track feature
2. Numeric key programming ability
3. chord (if possible) or normalize over 100%

I'm looking for to the development of os2xl as long as this simult issue gets fixed asap.
but if there ever was an option to add fetures to os2 they would be:

1- dB% Normalize
2- T.C. Strength
3- Filter 2

Lets hope OS2xl get old simult back!
Peace!

OS1 is the core both OS2 and XL simply add to it.

The point is who wanted an Arp in the firt place?
The attempt force the 1k to a higher level is cool but weigh you cost.
Losing real features for a playful but minimalist function doesn't balance out.
If it was a programmiable double Arp with controllable scalings then maybe but that's no where near what it is. :(

Maybe the question you should have asked was could the Arp and Chord be removed to bring features back.

I'm makin' noise 'cause I just got a 2500 and JJ stopped selling OS 1 and 2.

At this time, the free OS is the only OS currently available from JJ for the 2500.

Based on JJ's OS comparison chart and manual, OS 1 and 2 are the best fit for my needs and the douche has done away with both of them.

Well truthfully JJ could shut the whole thing down if he wanted to and you couldn't say anything.

As for the current 2500 OS supposedly the release date for it has been moved forward so the problem will resolve itself.

If the package deal still allows you to boot to the various OS levels it will be the same but allow JJ to only have to send passwords once instead of three times.
That's less headache for him.

If he shuts the whole thing down, fine. But while it's up, he should stop with the unprofessional decision making.

I don't follow. What will be resolved?

You can't boot OS2 once OS2XL has been installed. I doubt JJ has plans to change this, it would make too much sense.

There is nothing unprofessional about his choices, those who have paid for the various OS versions have them.
That's like saying it's unprofessional for a store to stop carry an item you want to buy.

What will be resolve is the availability of OS's.
He will probably just make all 3 available as one download.
If he makes all 3 available then you can still boot to your choice just like XL users can now.
Just to use OS2 requires a re-install.

Currently he's not selling any OS for the 2500 so he's losing money.

He's removed the OS1 and OS2 installers from his server. A legit business would have an archive for those who have paid for previous versions and want the latest bugfixes. No way to run a business.

I guess you can't expect more from a pimply faced 14 year old nerd developing JJ OS in his parents' basement.

Wow...

I just erased all the comments I made. I don't think I can improve on your retardation.

the 'package deal' isn't about saving JJ the trouble of emailing 3 passwords, it's about making more money. plain and simple. JJ has every right to do it, just as i have every right to call it for what it is.

OS sales for the 2500 are fewer than for the 1000 (less 2500 owners), so he's bundling the OS's together to make more money than he would normally for the 2500 code. that's a business decision designed to increase profit. this is the exact same thing that a lot of retailers do to increase sales (buy this & get that for 50% off) only in this case, JJ isn't giving you an option.

and before anyone gets on my case... i've always said that JJ was charging too little for his OS! i've always urged people to purchase the OS and the one thing you'll never see me complaining about is the upgrade costs associated with the various versions. i've always paid these gladly.

but right now, for the 2500 OS the cost of entry (to ANY version) is $113. i think that might be a bit steep and lose him a lot of potential customers. time will tell.

is this confirmed? i am waiting for the 2500 os2xl but with the intention of dualbooting, depending on the needs of and program i'm working on

Explanation of XL

Installation of XL can be performed only from Ver3.09 of the free version.
Moreover, XL cannot switch OS.
Therefore, when you return to OS of AKAI, and OS1, please install OS again from the mode of load of XL.
When you return to OS2, please install OS2 again from the load mode of OS1 after installing OS1.
In addition, even if it installs XL, the password of OS1 or OS2 is not lost.

Unless it enters the password of XL, the save of XL is impossible.
Even if a function except a save does not enter a password, it can be used altogether.

The password price of XL is US$113.00.
However, the price is US$64.00 when installing XL in MPC into which the password of OS1 is entered.
When the password of OS1 is entered, Product ID of 6 characters is displayed.
When the password of OS1 is not entered, Product ID of 7 characters is displayed.
Product ID is not displayed when the password of OS2 is entered. (A password is unnecessary)

When the password of XL is entered into MPC into which the password of OS1 is entered, OS2 cannot be used although OS1 can be used.
MPC into which the password of OS1 and OS2 is entered can use all the JJ OS (OS1, OS2, XL).

now, that's sick..
