If anyone out there listens to MF Doom (or Prefuse 73 or Madlib) and you know how he gets those robotic like snares and kicks, any tips would be greatly appreciated.I think he uses an sp1200 but i use the 2000.(just wanted to know if it's possible without sampling his kicks and snares.Peace

You shouldn't sample his kicks and snares....
That's cheap! It's like a chef preparing a dish straight from the rival reastaurant's menu.

Listen to the characterics of the sounds, and the sounds itself and try to see/hear how he incorporates them into the mix.

He's got the 3000 and the XL I think (if I remember correctly), but at the end of the day it don't really matter. It's the sound source that matters more than the sampler used to sample them.

YO RIPPER, UNLESS CHEECH HELP U PAY FOR THAT GUN DO WHAT DA HELL U WANT WIT IT SHOOT YO **** OFF!

You can't sample madlib kiks and snares thats bllsht, if you've any self respect and respect for sampling as an art form then rule no.1 is,

NEVER SAMPLE A SAMPLE!!

(Cheech take the MPC off this fool, he aint ready for it yet)

Funny none the less.

maybe check to see if hes got some sample sources listed in his cover. Or check out some "sample listing" websites. or ask someone on the www.the-breaks.com forum.

Someone on this site also offered to sell a masterlist of tons of peoples sources that he researched, maybe get with him....sorry forgot who it was. In any event though, id listen to the drums, find your own presets, samples or whatever dry, that are close to em, then start messing with effects etc. or maybe layer some of his thinned out over yours.

Lots off dudes have ethics, such as myself....but i would say if you sample someone elses drums (not that i have to tell you what to dO) but i just wanna let you know what i do. anyways, I wouls say, go ahead and sample them, but make sure you use them as a piece to the puzzle, and freak them just like any other sample.....like i said above, maybe layer it with your own, or filter it to get the characteristic you want, then put your own bottom end in or something.....just so you can say and justify it, that way no one can claim you stole his sounds....but that you made them better. It would Even be better if they wonder how you did it. HAve FUN!

Peace.
