Ok... my first question is... who the Fk are The Beat Kangz?
Have they put out any hits that anyone has heard before? I have heard nada, nunca, zero about them before other than putting their name on Streetboxx.

wow that machine and its advertising campaign are really cheesy.

i actually think they are onto something but going way off course. im really surprised that no other more credible producers have gone into launching their own samplers by now. i was thinking of something like that the other day, that it would be dope if i could make my own sampler with features that i like and simpler ways of doing things that catered to my type of production.

i mean im guessing it would be relatively easy to create a machine nowadays, they put a beatmaker on a iphone for god's sake.

if a doctor dre or premier invested into something like this minus an ad campaign that would alienate other consumers such as this machine, i think it would be very lucrutive for them.

look at dj qbert. he had a line of turntables. why wouldnt a beatmaker attempt to make his own machine?

as far as this machine, it would seem that only someone who likes southern beats would be interested in this machine. and if the beats they have in the video are any indications of what the machine would sound like, count me out even more. who the hell are the beat kangz anyway? this just seems way too much like a gimmick.

the mpc was never meant for hip hop and only recently has akai even tapped into trying to reach out to that market. which it probably shoulda done way way long ago, but i think part if not most of its appeal is the fact it's a universal machine.

catering to solely crunk fans seems like a very bad idea to me. a chopped and screwed feature? gotta be joking. they've built a machine based solely on the trends in present music. and if you ask me this trend already reached it height a few years ago. people have their mpc's, asr's, etc. for many many years. this machine and its trendy fx will be out of style in a year or two, if not by the time it comes out.

big companies think like this: "why launch hardware samplers then there's software"

but its better not to release a sampler if its goin to be like this beatkangz bullshit

I think their promo is tremendously entertaining! I laughed out loud at some of the copy & it's about time Akai & Roland got some competition. If you look at other areas of technology, like Crackberries & JesusPhones the capabilities have come so far & with beat machines it's like they're still stuck in 2003.

I'm sure many folks here buy products that have cheesy ad campaigns- Doritos, blunt wraps, Macs, etc...

The proof will be in the pudding as NAMM is next week and you gotta think the internet will be going nuts with "word on the street" for this Beat thing (kinda like this post went nuts)... so lets see if it's hot or dicksnot- btw Chuck D cosigned these Beatkangz dude's last machine- the reality is the economy is crap & most folks ain't trying to drop a G on a "beat machine" when they got bills to pay, kids to feed & rent/mortgages to dent.

I'm sure the price point on this box will be reasonable, & if it's any good it could have a chance of being the iPod of beat machines much to the chagrin of forum-zillas! We'll know soon enough-

Only thing I wonder is who actually manufactures that thing. Those three guys don't look like they design and build a sampler/drum-machine device from scratch.

It will have 4 times the memory of an MPC 5000, more preset sounds than a roland Fantom. More drum kits or preset beats than any drum machine in history. Yeah only midi in and out but umm..... USB IN AND OUT used in some interesting ways. Yes only 16 tracks but each kit has 8 banks and you dont have to separate your drums on separate tracks anymore since you will be able to mute and solo pads..... so really each pad in a bank is a track so whats 13pads x 8banks per kit x 16 tracks? 1664 i think

No need for allot of outputs. USB 2.0 is pretty powerful these days and can carry allot of audio....

No more loading your samples into Ram. Everything on the SD's is availible in realtime..... So are all your kits and patterns. Upto 16gigs in each slot and as soon as the new 32gig cards and drivers come out we'll ad support for that too. So that would be 64gigs on SD cards

Has Akai been very responsive to your requests for features and updates? Why did JJ os come out? shouldn't akai be updating there own stuff? Why do you think they dont?

ZOOM and Akai tried to rip us off. We met with Akai and a year later the XR20 came out..... They even jacked some of our sounds
