lookin to pick up a 60/3000 got some q's

got some extra cream to spend right now so thought id try to get myself a 60. got a 2500 right now just not really liking it as compared to my old 2kxl, so trying to sell it. looks like a 60 goes for about 500-600 on ebay, what you guys thinkin bout that price? is there a os upgrade since 3.10? and is the best thing for storage an external hd? good lookin out on any helps guys..

that's a great price, make sure there is scsi, use a scsi zip 100..imo you'd appreciate a 3k more, should be only 300 more or get a 950 to go with it...3.10 is the latest

$500-$600? Look again...lol. Not with upgraded ram, SCSI, and 3.10e all included. (SCSI upgrade costs $300) The one on fleebay that went for the low low. was beat to all Hay-Deez. Others werent fully maxed out. Depends on how particular you are about your gear, I suppose.

Storage? You could do the floppy drive. Zips are faster and better But that ultimate would be... http://scsiforsamplers.com/ They got the Compact Flash card burners/readers. (only if you have the SCSI upgrade).

That being said.. My 60 has the SCSI joint..but I NEVER used it. For me floppies help me to stay more organized. 1 or 2 flops per song. They take a hot minute to load though compared to other options. (I use SCSI on my Emax's though)

A S950 will still have your rockin' flops if neither has the SCSI. It will add more sample time if you dont have maxed out ram... but then theres miding the two together. If "all in one box-ability" is important a S950 might just end up frustrating you more than helping. Pro's and cons though. Depends on how much time you have on your hands.

I just got 2 black-face internal MCDISKi's , (one for my S3200(Yea!)) which work great in the MPC60.

I would get them sooner, not later. The website changes almost daily, and these readers won't be around forever.

Don't miss the floppy's one bit.

the 60 with the floppies isnt that bad i mean i can make a sandwich while it's loading and then eat it by then it's done loading...lol...but u cant go wrong with a 60 just a lot of people like to use it with something else such as a sampler...

If you do use flops make 2 backups of each beat disk.. They fail like crazy...

I would say a good 60 with 3.10 would fetch around 800..

A good 3000 around 1100-1300...

Trust me you want a very nice one if you are going through the trouble..

Also Guitar Center has them time to time on their used site..

Be careful buying sight unseen MPC's on the bay can be sketchy and I would suggest calling them on the phone to get a real feel for the condition..

yo man i dont know much bout any gear but the mpc, just tryin to get good on the beats before i spend more, but what you mean ppl like to use it with a sampler? im guessing the 950 but is that just cuz the sampling time and dirty sound?

60/3000 = Sampling DRUM MACHINE/MIDI SEQUENCER

s/950/1000/3000/etc etc = sampler. (also in this category are your ASR 10's, Emu joints, etc) They usually have more features than a MPC and were designed to serve a different purpose.

Thats a high level summary. You can reasearch the diffs and get as deep into your understanding as you want with these two categories.

Personally I would stick with the MP for a while and master that before DETERMINING...if you even need anything else. What others work with ... may not be necessary for you to accomplish the type of music you are looking for. Then again... it may help.

Dont give in to gear lust...just cuz ya got the loot tho.... I was at Git'Tar Center yesterday.... Its not worth it... walk awaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy.... lol. (not sure if im talking to you or me anymore)

Everyday im teetering between selling my 60 and blowing it out all custom on some Forat ish....

Yeah I first started off with the 2500 too. I wasnt happy with it either. I had to stack and stack my kicks just to get them to bump right. I got sick of it. I got myself a 3000 and Im alot happier with the sound. The workflow is a little longer and a lil more difficult (no waveform chopping, you can only use 1 program at a time, etc.) but you'll get used to it quick. I have just learned to incorporate my PC more in my chopping method. I do all the chopping in cool edit and then load the chops into MPCeditor and then load them onto a zip disk.

Your best bet would be to get a 3000 and use a Zip100 drive (or spend the $300 on the card reader). Also you would wanna buy MPCeditor. It makes a world of a difference. Thats just my 2 cents! good luck! peace!

yea i would say get what you can now and if anything get something to accompany it...and I would say get the MPC-60, but that's just me
