Yes. You are correct. He said that it has all the features of the 4K..it can keymap the synth. So you took that statement and ran with it? 4 months prior to its release? Even when the entire feature set was listed almost immediately on Akai's website and the manual was available for download? If the 4K sh!ts on the MPC 5K why did you purchase it? Because you were lied to and cheated by Akai? I think you take your case to court and win. They owe you an MPC 4000 OS.

The rep made the inaccurate statement and it wasn't taken out of context. Why even try to spin it?
There is simply nothing to defend and you have no real reason to razz the dude for pointing it out.

Returning to the program already in progress...

NorthernElite posted this pic of the MPC 5000. I am not sure if this is an expansion board or some sort of diagnostic port. The MPC 2500 has something similar.

But what if it was some sort of expansion port? It would be awesome if the MPC 5000 had a Fusion type expansion board giving it 192 (give or take) MB of ROM based sounds/waveforms with the ability to store 512 patches onboard the MPC. Emu/Ensoniq did something like this with the ASR-X and the MP-7 command stations. Akai should consider furthering this idea.

I could very well see a future for OS paid OS updates for MPCs. JJ recently made an announcement the OS 1 and 2 for the MPC 2500 is no longer sold. Only JJ-OS XL (weird name..but ok) will be sold for the price of $113. I am sure forum members will continue to support JJ and his efforts.

As I wrote earlier, I would gladly pay $100-$400 for an OS update that added all the features that I want (I have about 2-3 dozen requests).

So far, most of the people that responded to the thread voted no for OS update you pay for. But I am curious to know if any of them have an OS update with the JJ OS installed or whether the own an MPC 5000.

you wonder the wrong things man.. instead of wondering about what gear people own, why dont you wonder about why people prefer FREE over PAYING... I am wondering why you dont understand that people will always pick FREE over PAYING. It is easy... because FREE is cheaper then PAYING... I dont even know why you would try to encourage akai to charge for stff like that... why is it so key that they charge for it unless you were getting a cut of that money.

Is this a joke or do some people really not understand the real meaning of this thread aside from "paying or free"?

Compare Akai (or of EVERY other music gear company) OS developements to the ones of JJ. JJ does not depend on realeasing new hardware products every few years that have the aim to replace their older models in the limelight of NAMM, but every other company does. So software support will not be going that strong as 2nd/3rd parties (who only do this and nothing else) could provide and it will naturally dry out.

You want it going on that way forever, especially when you have bought a model like the 5000?

Well I am not saying people dont want new features... I am just saying that if te machine is capable of them, it should have them. period. All that paying for new features does in the sense that askia states is it promotes the companies to leave them out when they make a product followed by charging everyone extra for them. Abviously everyone will want the machine to do more, but doesn't it seem rediculous to pay more then the several grand you initially payed for a machine with half it's potential installed on it? I find the poll kind of not so great because it either states 1) you want to pay for extra features, or 2) you do not want extra features.... where is 3) I think the features should be included ??
