i'm on about that vimeo of that wierd Daedelus guy, he's a real pain to watch. ew.

really fake showy nature to the "im using electronics-but i need to make it look more creative-so i'll over hype my (essentially) button pushing".

its just too unreal for me all that showmanship carp. i cant take it.

I understand, but honestly. Its a show. People pay to see you play. The first rule of music is most people don't just want music. They want an experience and a show. No one wants to see someone sit in a chair and type on a computer for an hour....

It might be ridiculous and stupid looking, but for people who don't whats going on anyways its a show to them.
I am not going to lie. For a couple Gs a night I would do it.

Also Daedelus is a long time monome user.

Yo that video was insanely awesome.
So is this running on a click and he just records everything in and then it breaks it up into 16 note phrases on the monome that you can trigger and control and manipulate?

Great information. I am really interested in that. That is pretty hot....
You keep getting me more interested. LOL.

he needs to address that issue with his arms flinging all over the place everytime he hits the buttons, i'm thinking he's got his earth all wrong, 'cos he's definitely getting some kind of electric shocks there off his home made bogbox. darn it - he.s actually in pain, its affecting his judgement too , the musics awful.

I haven't logged in for a minute. but i LOL'd hard. i thought the same thing when i saw that.

He also should address his sideburns, and hair.... unless he decides to wear a leather jacket and have a girl with a poodle skirt.

the godawful problem with electronic music is performance
give a guy a guitar and people love it, even if he's not a showman
have the same guy doing tons of stuff on a box full of buttons that people don't understand and they'll exclaim that it's all just playing from an mp3

Yep. I saw some comments on a blog about JEL from Anticon and his performance and YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE WHAT HE IS DOING IN HIS VIDEO, and everyone was like

"That is stupid, that is whack, etc, etc."
"Why doesn't he use a computer and sequence it?"
"That is fake?"
"What is he doing?"

Most electronic music performances are a joke though.....
I watched videos of Flying Lotus and he is dancing and everynow then will use his laptop....
I was like.... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

yeah i know dude, i see your argument, but i happen to believe in THE music, and i (mbe naively) believe that if u build it they will come, so therefore, do a show, make the just music blow em away, the audience feel u look better (if thats the goal - which i actually doubt) cos u are supreme in that context.

were all living in the future now, people aren't so stupid about such issues re: computers, electronics, and such devices for creativity......but mbe thats cos i live in Europe where people are often more up for the post-post modern.

Yeah it honestly is not like that in music here as much. You can't just rock a crowd and that's it you are set. There is some other interaction that has to occur for people to like you. Because of MTV, etc you have to have a relationship, and market, and viral, and logos, and photos, and blah blah blah. %75 of the music industry isn't music at all. It's marketing and relationships.

And +1 to the fact that Europe is more open to the post post modern.
I agree fully. And props for calling it post post modern.
