You have to record it and get the timing right, even if it hurts.

not quite sure i understand what "loop individual pads" means.. but if youre talking about just making the same pad play over and over and over you could use note repeat?

Not really...Note Repeat retriggers the sample every 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 or whatever note...so if your sample is not by accident exactly 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 note long, that will not play the whole sample. Only works for short hits.

He wants to keep a pad looping on its own like on others loop samplers, but the MPC can't do that.

Sure it can (depending on which model you are using).

On the 2000XL you can set the LOOP field to ON while in the LOOP PAGE. Then set the LOOP START AND END POINTS.
Go back to the MAIN SCREEN and your sample will loop as long as you hold the pad down.

I can't get this to work on the MPC1000 with Akai OS. Maybe JJ does it.

That's the point...I don't think the OP wants to hold the pad. And this one you can do on every MPC, I wonder why you can't get it to work on the 1000.

So your not wanting to hold the pad down?
Can't you just trim it and then edit the start/stop times and turn the loop function on; then create another sequence (or track) and run the sound???

On my MPC500, you just hold down the shift key then the pad down with the sample and let it play. It will loop without hands touching. Make sure your samples are trimmed to your liking in TRIM Mode before attempting this proceedure, your loops can short circuit your fukken head.

sorry i'm a bit late, i haven't use my mpc 500 for a while, but as i see a lot of right answers , but none complete (for mpc500 users) it's as simple as this...
1 - press MODE ----> TRIM
2 - in TRIM mode, select the loop or sample you want to use and simply set it to LOOP
3 - press MODE ---> PROGRAM , then scroll to PLAY MODE ... set that to note on
4 - go back to your sequence ... and hold the pad you set your sample to... it should be looping , now , as stated in other posts, ..... hold down the pad, then press shift for a while,.. let go ... and voila, your loop will be looping (if it matches your sequence bpm? )

virgin monkey is on soundcloud, reverbnation, myspace, last fm & more :)

just retrigger the sample where you want it to loop. e.g. 8 bar sequence with a 2 bar 'loop' - trigger it on the 1,3,5,7.

For Akai Os on MPC1000 hold down pad to play sample and press numeric key to hold. Sample must be set to loop on and pad from one shot to play as note on in program settings.
I'm not sure what mpc you have so ?
