Today.....

Well i finally got my 5000 through today, most of you probably wouldnt know me but i dont really post here much, but will rectify that.
I been a reasonbly long time user of mpc's had the 2000, xl, 4000 and 1000.
Anyway i had my 5000 delivered today, i gotta say im really enjoying it, id say the synth is allot more usable than i expected.
Apart from all the other obvious features i really like the 64 little dots on the main screen that symbolize the tracks, thats a new feature right? its good cause i do my producing quickly and dont name tracks.

The gripe i have with it is the **** usb. jesus they still havent made it so you can unmount it from the mpc, shit like that really annoys me. Other than that i can see myself being a fan.

also can anyone tell me if it is possible to record the entire mix through the main out directly to the hardrive? that could be handy.

What other synths do you own or are comparing it too?
I find that to be a big piece of why some like it and some don't.

If you have Pro Tools you can run it directly to your M-Box and record on pro-tools and also have seperate tracks (snare,keys,bass,etc) which would be useful for mixing.

i got a korg ms-20. i had my hard drive dissapear on me earlier though which wasnt good

It is a;lways nice to have another MPC 5000 user. Read the manual as well as the numerous threads about certain features to get you going.

As far as the Hard Drive, you can record your entire mix as a stereo track among other things.

Yeah the 5K very similar in architecture to the 1k so the general shit i know, but i keep coming unstuck with the different buttons and shit, in a week or so reckon ill be fluent so i can knock out something decent!

I haven't tried to yet,but isn't there a way to bounce down tracks - 1-8 to separate wave files,and then dump them into pro-tools,cubase etc.. ?

You can only bounce down or record 2 tracks at a time. I would love to see 8 tracks of simult recording though.....

You can record live (each track)through Pro-Tools on seperate tracks.

You can record or mixdown the MAIN OUT, 1-2 OUT, 3-4 OUT, 4-5 OUT, or 7-8 OUT and save each L/R as a separate .wav file to the HD...with effects, automation and as a 24 bit file!!! (although you can only record 2 tracks or outputs at a time) Then when you have all your files recorded to the HD, just USB them to your DAW. They should all line up. You can also mixdown an external sound source thru the record INS as .wav files. Bear in mind you'd have to MUTE tracks you don't want as part of any file mixdown.

In HD RECORD, press the WINDOW button on the Source field.

But yes, it may be quicker to do several passes of 8 analog outs to your sound card. This would require syncing up to your DAW to ensure each pass lines up.

Damn it man. I don't understand why they wouldn't make it so that you can record 8 tracks at once to the HD. So bummed. That would have been amazing..

Well... there is the optical ADAT output (8 track).

So can I record through the ADAT out 8 individual tracks to Logic Pro or Ableton?

What AKAI needs to do,is to simplify the bounce down,or multi-export of all tracks,into wave files,and make it a painless procedure to import into DAW.. Maybe the MPC 6000 will do that.Till then we will use the older method here..
