Well, I don't really expect an answer...the only "100% independent" company that comes to mind building something remotely close were the Monome guys...and that was only a simple MIDI controller. Some of you will remember the price tag on those...you would basically need a major company to do the manufacturing for you to be able to sell it for a price the producer kids this is marketed at will be able to afford. And I doubt there is a company out there that can afford the ressources for that without their name tag on the machine.

Kebzer was on point with his remark too.

The screen looks excellent on the MOTU! NI make some good shit also but their box looks a bit dated to me.

One thing's for sure... Akai have got to seriously raise their game in the desirabilty stakes or they will die a death.

Right now I feel like all these boxes are the Roman Senate and the MPC is Caesar.
None of these boxes will single-handedly kill akai, but they're all getting a few stabs in...

Motu "looks" like more of a serious machine but only performance will tell.
BUT, the "looks" seem to be more professional and appealling than the kangs one.
An LCD screen, that's gonna be nice. BUT, only performance for the new machines will
matter in the end.

Still, gear thats easy on the eyes is a factor too.

hmmm...i'm not gonna speak about the marketing.

I have to say that I'm all for beatmakers creating gear with the features they feel they need. I'm totally in support of an independent company trying to shove their way into the arena,...not saying I'll buy it, though, cause I'm good with my 1k.

that's a good point with Roger Linn's new box. The feature list on this box is looking ridiculous, especially for the expected price (less than an mpc2500). How can a "truly" independent company afford this? It seems that they're aiming high....and that's good for the designers, but not for users who have faced numerous disappointments with pro gear in the past.

With that said, we'll just have to wait for it to come out to see how it performs. I'd love to give it a whirl. Props to them.
