arebee wrote:getting these features grafted into OS2 is essentially what XL is but with nasty trade offs, why not just stick to original/unique requests re:OS2, instead of asking OS2 to be fitted with XL features.

it's very simple: because JJ has already coded them!

by default, JJ is not going to want to go back and develop / add features to an old OS when he has a new one for sale.
no way he is going to code for 2 different OS's simultaneously.
so if we say nothing... OS 2 is DEAD. NO new features ever.

we are saying:
please just once add some of these new features to OS 2. to make it even easier for you:
1. we ask only that you add features that you have already written (little to no extra work involved)
2. we are just asking for some of the simpler features (doesn't conflict with existing OS 2 features)
3. we will all pay you a little extra to do this.

the upshot: we get some of the improved workflow of OS 2XL without losing the power of OS 2.

lets face it: ARPEGGIATOR, CHORD, FILTER 2, FILTER EQ, the new GRID EDIT screen... these are the things that caused the conflicts with the OS 2 stuff that's gimped in 2XL (q-links, mixer automation, q-real, simult, etc.)

were saying "we don't need that stuff!"
we'd rather do without the fancy new flash and keep the old functionality.
just give us the improvements that DON'T conflict with OS 2 stuff.

also, a lot of us will have BOTH OS's. if we want to use the XL stuff we can boot into XL.
this is just about getting OS 2 as powerful as possible before it is abandoned.

1. Sample loop-Xfade

2. the most important thing:

With current OS2 there's no way to do adjust (track) volume for external gear!!!

Os1 track velocity is gone, OS1's velocity (on the main screen) helped a little since it
output Channel Pressure (MSB) -midi messages to the selected midi channel.
anyway the best solution for this would be that :

Track Mixer channels would output midi CC 7 Volume (MSB)
[midi channel volume message = Bn 07 vv]

Pan would be nice too..
[midi pan message = Bn 0A vv (0=left, 127=right, 64=center)]

I bet many users really need this, since you could adjust your multitimbral soundmodules' channel levels from the track mixer. These standard midi messages are supported by almost every soundmodule/synthesizer out there.

1+ cosign... Dont care for that "Chord" function... Its was a nice feature but could do without it in exchange for some more important features...

Slider Mode "center offset", "zero offset"

in Mode+Pad1/Slider page,

instead of sliders allways having 0/zero at their centre position, (eg: filter can only ever be -50/+50 or less - zero being at the center),

an offset value could be added to set the center to be any value 0-100 (giving us the ability to get say 100 at centre),
as long as the entire range spans the possible min/max, i'd like to be able to put 'zero'/'min' anywhere, or '100'/'max' anywhere.

as long as the values when moved beyond that point don't go above max /below min, i dont see why this couldnt be implemented, a simple calculation in the OS would take place....so the page would be like:-

"Q1:realtime : cutoff : 0 +100 +100 > track "

above eg: filter cut off range would be 0-100, with slider at min gives value=0, and slider at centre gives value=100.....(all values above remain at theoretical max eg:100). and any and all variations on this would be saved in slider/qlink, respective to the track or program as usual.

or:-

"Q1:realtime : tune : -120 +110 +120 > track"

above eg: the slider at min gives the full octave down in pitch, centre gives eleven semitones up, max gives whole octave up.

Sooty_G wrote:hey arebee, do you have any requests from things that were implemented in OS 2?

among all the new features in OS 2XL, which ones would you most like to see appear in OS 2?

http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/os2xl/

erm i guess, since its a very long shot, i feel divided in limiting it to a few....

• change of a track can be performed during recording.
• Rearranging the Sequences
• The improvement of name editing. Cursor is moved to the last or first of a name, by the [SHIFT]+ right or a left cursor key.
• The ZERO CROSS key was added to the "Joint" window of TRIM.
• setup of Q-Link can be performed on a main screen.
• change of a track can be performed in a [MODE]+ DATA wheel. (In all the modes)
• Bars loop. (During playback, the loop can perform from the present bar to arbitrary bars.)

i'd much rather see, classic OS2 items added to XL - since ive paid for all the OS's : 2x Qlink, Qreal edit in grid,
i like a lot of the XL realtime ability to alter or record while changing tracks etc. and workflow seems streamlined,
but Qlink and Qreal grid edits are deal breakers as far as im concerned.

dont ask me i'm a mess.

im over all the OS's. anyway JJ's making me a personal OS called BaseOS-Z, costing me a fortune. but its worth it, i factor that my mpc will be five times the value of the custom OS itself.

joke.
