They are starting to show up EVERYWHERE too... Beat Kangz, Maschine, Akai drum machine, Korg stuff, Roland fantom line, and even the elusive and desirable LinnDrum II. I guess next there will be a retro kit for the 60? :roll:

the sp808 had illuminating pads, that was about 8 years ago

i've been thinking about the maschine and yes it does look cool but ... looks are deceiving, this thing isn't an MPC or a Linn Drum II for that matter

it's a MPC shaped hardware controller for some software, without a computer it does nothing, it can't make it's own sounds

so it's not a hardware sequencer/sampler/drum machine in other words

This is very true. I'm also wondering if the Maschine software only works with a serial number from a Maschine controller? If so, this would be an attempt to deter people from using a cracked version of the software....which in itself is a pretty good Idea. Actually, thinking about it I don't really see how you could use this software without the controller since most of the features tie into the actual controller. Hmmm.......interesting. :D

Precisely, the controller is married to the software. That's what I dig about it.

It looks good it is what the Motu unit should have been. Battery 4 with a hardware unit.

I like the step sequencer.

The pads look flimsy though.

I know it's dedicated hardware with software possibilities, but I really would like to know how dependent it is on software? Could you use this thing without ever connecting it to a computer and still have the full feature set? If so then I like it, with some reservations. The main one being too many features. The second one being I despise machines that come preloaded with sounds. Third, say what you want about the 500 -- but you can't deny it's pretty well built. This? I'm not so sure. Looks very plastic and consumer level.

Another thing, I feel like the MPC is still one of the best machines for making flat out boom-bap style Hip-Hop.

This thing inevitably caters to the unce unce unce dance music folks.

There will always be a need for hardware drum machines. They're not going anywhere no time soon.

entirely dependent as far as i can tell, if it's not plugged into the computer it doesn't do anything at all, if it's bus-powered it won't even power up!

it's like the kore 2 controller, which i've owned, it's a hardware front-end to software

this is another gimmick................i already have something like this:

I have an mpd24 midi wired to my card bus soundcard (emu 1616m) which i use with the drum racks in ableton live 7.

how will this maschine be more different with my current setup?
