hey. i've been sampling alot recently though it was my first time ; ) i spent 4 hours going through alot of latin cd's i had lieing around n managed to get a few snares n toms off there. i was just wondering what parts of the track do people sample? ive heard some sequances on you tube that sounded amazing. how do u know how much of a track you want to sample? surely i should try and get more than snares and toms from a sample song. any help would be much appreciated.

sample anything you would find useful. most common is to take an instrument loop of 1 or 2 bars. in most songs, usually the intro, middle, 3/4 of the way threw, or the outro of the song will have a breakdown with just instruments. thats the part that is most commonly sampled. this is just a start tho, soon you will learn ur own tastes and sample whatever.

:roll: How do you actually expect to get a decent answer to this question? Sample anything that you think sounds gooods, and would fit into a beat that YOU like. This reminds me of these half inbred, deaf sounding motherfckkers who go on american idol. Do they actually watch the show and think that it would be a good idea to audition?? It's like they don't have that normal human realization that, wow, all of those people that didn't get completly made fun of were 1000x both better sounding, as well as better looking than me. Do they think they got what it takes? Are they just stupid or delusional??? If this dood took 5 minutes looking around the internets, wouldn't he find that this is the most mind numbingly absurd question to ask in the "cr8 diggaz" part of the forum????

Anyway my advice is smoke mad bluntz, check the old myspace, and throw your mpc in the focking english channel...............

as a general rule, unless youre looking for one shots , make sure you sample in bars and chop in beats.

Small drumsounds like a single kick or snare, chops, like a 2 bar phrase sliced in beats. U can also get small instrumental stabs and build on that. Sample a few notes and make a multisamples.

Just like the other guys said, sample whatever u think sounds dope

hey, thanks for the positive feedback, ill have a play at making some bars though it is gonna take ages i can see ah well Rome wasn't built in a day. I'll just ignore that negative comment up there as you clearly don't know what your talking about. "you don't know me and you don't know my style." Kids today huh. always arguing on the internet. go out n play!

hmmm spose, i was just wondering what everyone else was doing. to make sure i wasn't missing out on anything. im still not sure how u take samples and load them up on to pads then get them to link together perfectly. i took an intro and split it down into each individual key so i could re arrange the notes but the notes were all different lengths so i would have to press buttons at a different rate of speed. :s

i am a newbie remember before u veterans flip your lid.

first off theres NO RULES to sampling, SO that means theres NO RULES to maken your music, JUST LEARN HOW TO USE YOUR SAMPLER ,then you can go sample what ever sounds good to your ears. THATs a strong point to sample what ever you want and put your own style into it. CLUE:KNOWING YOUR SAMPLER WILL HELP YOU WITH YOUR STYLE.!!!!!

you need to learn how to count beats and chop by beat. you dont chop by key for starters or all your samples are gonna be different sizes and you wont know how to arrange them.

you can chop by key later on when you know what you are doing. but for the most part learn how to count the beats of a song and how to chop them. the percussion of the song is usually the best indicator of where you're sposed to chop.

if you know that each bar has 4 beats then you're good. its a start. if you don't. i suggest you learn.

hey four eyes, i know how to count beats thanks, ive been djing for almost 8 years but yeh you a right about the measuring timing in a chopped sample i just need to sit down and learn this instrument. grrrrr its frustrating. sampling is going well apart from these pieces i really want to use but they are too big for floppy disk! anyone got any ideas? i was thinkin of using some basic software to record my song and add my samples in there then use the sequancer as an instrument to record over samples which are too big to put on it, does anyone do this? or know a better way?

try to chop them i to smaller peices or bigger peices, i think your ssamples are to big ,but that may just be me,

but chop them and record them to seprate sequences and then build your song with reps & what not.

Not really!

I don't know why ya'll are lying like you can sample anything. Everyone who's really down knows you can only sample the part of the song that is in between 3:15 and 4:75. If the song is shorter than 3 minutes you are not allowed to sample it. If the song is over 4:75 you are only allowed to interpolate the sample. These are the breaks kids! :( Sorry!
