Harddrive quicker than CF?

Just got an internal 40GB harddrive and this bytch saves and loads WAY faster than the CF card. I always thought flash based storage media was faster than hard disc storage media?! No?

Havent noticed the difference.

I do know that the MPC2500 loads faster than my old MPC500 that I had.

What I did was save a beat to CF. Then immediately saved it to the HD. On the CF, it took nearly 1 minute. HD was under 15 seconds.

Dope. Where did you get a 40gb HD from? I was looking to get one but I ended up buying a 100gb Toshiba drive that cost like $5 less then all the 40gb I found.

How much did you pay?

Ebay! $32 shipped. I started to buy a large drive, but then I thought, in nearly 9 years of owning an MPC, I don't even have 1GB worth of beats, and I have probably nearly 1000 beats. So I know I will never use 40GB. It really is overkill.

It is overkill.

But yeah I got my 100gb HD from ebay aswell and paid $29 for it and shipping was free. I will never fill it up though. 100gb is insane for an MPC.

I also have a 4gb CF card.

And they said only up to a 2GB card will work! Is that a JJ bonus?

No its not... I even used that same 4gb CF card with my MPC500

Depends on the reader you use. I guess the components Akai put in the 2500 are not the fastest.

I knew different types of SD cards are faster/slower depending on th brand/place of manufacture. Different brands of SIMMs perform better sometimes with the same specs. Hard drives with the same specs can be faster depending on the manufacturer.. I think you can see where im going with this.

CF cards are super slow......I've noticed a huge difference between CF and disk.

Just to throw this in--

You might want to mention what model of CF card you're comparing with. These things have a HUGE range of speeds. I didn't realize until I started using a Sandisk "Extreme III" card... which averages an insane THREE times faster save/load time than my Sandisk "Ultra II" card.

I have a SanDisk Extreme III 4gb.

I'm using a Sandisk Ultra II which is my fastest card LOL......three times faster would be fabulous!!

Do it! Heck, get the "Extreme IV" card. I had no idea that the MPC would be able to make use of a high performance CF card, but was VERY pleasantly surprised. I literally sat there testing with a stop watch to measure how much faster the new card was.
