I'd rather compare it to buying a stack of records and finding out u'll use only a few...

what OS do you have ?
For the XL Update, following OS must install before:
OS3.09 or OS1 5.56 or OS2 1.22
And then you see the new XL File

optional use of os2 and os1 for those who go straight from the akai os to os2xl was not originally planned, but it was decided to be made possible. (it is my guess that the plan to go 2xl only was in order to prevent the compatibility issues which are impossible to avoid otherwise. it is likely that all new users will use os2xl by default now, just because it's the latest/currently supported os)
